Vallerina 2 #1 April 3, 2003 I know many folks out there don't do a large amount of charity work, so do your part! If it's crap weather on Saturday, April 12th, participate in a charity event for the Breast Cancer Organization and the Leukemia society. All you have to do to help is drink beer!!! You guys are great at that! The 9th Annual Masters Pub Crawl Saturday April 12, 2003 Registration Starting at 2 p.m. at Augie's (1800 block of Wrightwood) with 1st tee time around 2:30 p.m. Pass the word along!!!! THE TRADITION: For the past eight years, we (the residents and ex-residents of 506 West Arlington Place) have presented an annual event that coincides with the playing of the Masters, arguably the most prestigious professional golf tournament in the world. To pay homage to this magisterial competition here in Chicago, 868 miles away from the actual event in Augusta, Georgia, we've celebrated each year with droves of Masters fans and beer drinkers in the most appropriate way we could think of: a round of championship bar golf. In 2003, the tradition continues. THE GAME: Bar golf is, in many ways, easier than real golf... Teams of three are selected randomly at the first hole Each threesome plays nine holes of bar golf (i.e., nine bars) Each threesome is required to consume one pitcher at each bar, with scoring based on time required to finish: Score Pitcher Consumption Time Eagle 0-5 Minutes Birdie 5-10 Minutes Par 10-15 Minutes Bogey 15-20 Minutes Double Bogey 20-25 Minutes THE COURSE Course subject to change. Be sure to check with starter at first tee! 1. Augie's 2. Hog Head McDunnas 3. Bird's Nest 4. Reilly's (Racine just North of Fullerton) 5. Wrightwood Tap 6. Irish Eyes 7. Lincoln Station 8. Kendall's 9. Parkway Tavern THE FIRST TEE Once again, Augie's (just west of Ashland on Wrightwood) will serve as the first hole of the Masters Pub Crawl. Beginning at 2PM, we will register golfers for this year's event outside the bar at designated check-in tables. Given our projected participation, we plan to divide this year's field into 3-4 flights (roughly 60 golfers in each) and send these flights off in waves as each fills up with registrants. This should manage the size of the crowds, and as a result, minimize your wait for beer. THE TEAMS As usual, teams for the Masters Pub Crawl will be threesomes, picked randomly to foster socialization and parity among the competition field. If, however, you'd like to ensure that you're playing your bar-golf round in the same flight as someone (or a group of friends) in particular, try to arrive at Augie's at approximately the same time; we'll do our best to accommodate your request. Interested in experiencing the Masters without the pressures of competition? It's not mandatory to join a team; feel free to be a part of our Masters gallery to cheer on the golfers. THE CAUSE The Masters Pub Crawl is first-and-foremost a charity event. Chugging pitchers of Miller Lite and trolling through the bars of Lincoln Park are simply means to our philanthropic end. Our goal for this year's event is to raise over $2,500 with half of the proceeds going to the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization and the other half to the Leukemia Society. To achieve this goal, a modest $5 'greens fee' will be collected at the first tee and Masters Pub Crawl commemorative T-shirts will be sold with 100% of the net proceeds going to these causes. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Vallerina 2 #6 April 9, 2003 Quote Anyone going? Woo! I got a bump from Chris, too! I'm goin', and Andyman and Craichead may make an appearance as well (this is assuming crap weather like they're forecasting right now.) If it's beautiful outside, screw drinking! I'm goin' jumping! Oh! And if any short, brunette females go and meet some guy who says his uncle runs Abercrombie and Fitch...RUN AWAY!There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
riddler 0 #7 April 9, 2003 Generating money to help find a cure for cancer is a very noble sentiment. Eventually we will find a cure. But you should remind the organizers that many researchers have found links between alcohol consumption and breast cancer: http://imaginis.com/breasthealth/news/news12.7.99.asp http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2445273.stm http://www.nelh.nhs.uk/hth/alcohol_breast_cancer.asp Maybe an ice-cream social would be a better way to raise money for this particular cause. Now, since every non-skydiving post I make seems to get me in trouble, I'm gonna run and hide. (sounds of Riddler running away)
Vallerina 2 #8 April 9, 2003 QuoteBut you should remind the organizers that many researchers have found links between alcohol consumption and breast cancer: Well, if they're going to drink anyways, they may as well donate to a good cause or two! I don't know if I'm heading out there or not anyways. The forecast is now calling for sunny skies and warm temperatures. If the winds are above my comfort level, however, I may still be drinking! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
Slowfaller 0 #9 April 9, 2003 I talked it over w/ my brother and it looks like the two of us are going to be there regardless of the weather (unless it's rainy and cold). Maybe his roomates too. I'll be wearing my DZ.com shirt so if you're there, be on the look out. PS. The weather is going to be nice on Sunday! See you at SDC Chris
