The dz.com ratio

Recommended Posts

I'm actually trying to figure out if any formula would be a valid expression of a person's credibility.

Let's look at some of the factors;

1) dz.com posts -- completely irrelevant!
For instance, Bill Booth posts here rarely, but is by far one of the most credible people on the planet when it comes to gear.

2) Time on dz.com -- same deal.

3) Number of jumps -- good indication of experience level for some things, completely irrelevant for others.

4) Time in sport -- same deal.

5) Current in sport (jumps in the last 12 months) -- good indicator, but I have no idea where the cutoffs would be. Also suffers from the "good in some things, but not in others" problem.

6) Professional in sport. If you make any money doing something in the sport, at least somebody sees some value in what you're doing.

7) Accomplishments. Records, gold medals, awards -do- count for something!

8) Publish or perish. Has something worth saying and more importantly, somebody else thinks it's worth listening to.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! This isn't about validity, or postwhoriness. It's just about the inherent beauty of numbers :)

Very valid point. Perhaps ratings need to be assigned for each person in each forum. Bill Booth should have a very high rating in the Gear and Rigging forum, but a 0 in talk back. Certain other people (I wont name names) should have huge talkback ratings but low ratings in the...ahem...meaningful forums. I'd think each forum needs a completely different rating system to make this work out though.

We could add that task to the moderator's highly-paid job :). You know -- assigning validity ratings to posters, and then justifying them in the PM flashfires that ensue, and then Sangiro'd need a whole new forum for folks who want to complain abou their meaningfulness ratio :S

And I'd really want to know what would make someone highly qualified in the women's forum:D

This gives me a WendyRating(tm) of 4. Although, I do think my award should count for something.

Hahah, when I first glanced at that, I thought it said "Muppet" of the year. I was wondering what you had to do to earn that!:P
