AggieDave 6 #1 April 2, 2003 Ever been just that frustrated? I'm running behind on my paper (that's due on Thursday morning) and have been trying to get work done on it all day. Ever have one of those days where you just can't get things done? I'll try to work on it, then get distracted and do something else, then come back to it, and repeat the cycle. So, this afternoon, what did I do instead of working on my paper? Broke the sewing machine out and started work on modifying an old pair of BDU's to be a good pair of DZ shorts/Hop&Pop shorts. Cut the legs off, to a pair of long shorts, hemmed them, cut the buttons off the pockets and sewed velcro in place of them across the pockets, made a perminate belt for it, made out of low-end webbing and a plastic snapping closure. I fixed a busted seam in another pair of shorts I have. I basically did a lot of sewing that, although I wanted to get it done, I shouldn't have done it today...aggghh.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." jessd 0 #2 April 2, 2003 Hey if you really feel like sewing, why don't you come over my house and hem some pants. I'm too lazy to take them somewhere. wmw999 2,444 #3 April 2, 2003 Oh man, I understand what you mean. I was at work until 10:00 tonight to finish some coding, because I've been finding anything else to do. Sometimes you just have to be desparate enough. The problem is that "desparate enough" is always more desparate than you really needed to be, once you actually get started. So go put an half-assed outline down, then start filling it in. And good luck. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
flyingferret 0 #4 April 2, 2003 Okay, I already told dave I was going to bed. But....my advice...accept yourself. I spent half of school making sure I was doing the work before play. But I always procrastinated, but only had 50% fun because I knew I was breaking my own rules. Later on, I decided to just have fun, but set a deadline, when I hit it I had to start working. Either way, i goofed off first, but the second was made it much more productive. Honestly, a lot of my software and papers produced on the last night are my best stuff...seriously.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. AggieDave 6 #6 April 2, 2003 Yeah, I do sew. I honestly think that anyone that is serious about skydiving should learn to sew. Not for rigging stuff, but for fixing jumpsuits, modifying jumpsuits, etc. Not only that, but its a damned handy skill to have!I'm a pretty good cook too, although I'm a much better cook if its being grilled or cooked over an open fire. I totally agree, it comes in handy sometimes, though I'm not good at it With regard to your paper, you seem to be that kind of person which does everything at the last moment. Somehow, however, they make it most of the time. I don't really know how, even though I'm sort of that kind too! Probably, it has something to do with pressure. I think you recently showed that you can handle pressure very well! Good luck! edit: maybe you should scream, and break something, like an old plate against the wall; very effectiveDon't underestimate your ability to screw up! I wish I could sew so I could fix my damn freefly/tandem suit. The thing is older than hell and gets a fresh tear about once a month. -Sunman
AggieDave 6 #10 April 2, 2003 Hell yeah dude, go to Wal-Mart, drop $80-100 on a sewing machine, take an old pair of pants or something and practice sewing to get your stitching straight. Then you can get to work on your suits. Next thing you know, you'll be sewing hook knives on your suits, fixing holes, putting patches on... --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." SLOfreefall 0 #11 April 2, 2003 I've taken quite a liking to sewing. My first project was a jumpsuit. Turned out great, after multiple modifications. Now my wifes got me sewing pillows, window coverings, and all kinds of stuff. I do enjoy it, especially the skydiving stuff. My brother has been waiting close to 10 weeks for his professionally made suit to come in. I just laugh as he puts on the dz's carrot suit!

Brains 2 #14 April 2, 2003 I cooked up some desserts for the dz one time and everyone looked at me like i was crazy, then they tried some and the pan was empty in minutes. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
