AggieDave 6 #1 March 31, 2003 Finally, this asshole wanna be is out of our troop's hair. QuoteU.S. Military Expels Blabbermouth Geraldo From Iraq Peter Arnett isn't the only U.S. reporter busted in Iraq: The U.S. military is expelling Fox News Channel's unfortunate hire Geraldo Rivera from the country, CNN reported today. CNN quotes U.S. military officials as saying Geraldo violated "the cardinal rule of war reporting Monday by giving away crucial details of future military operations during a live broadcast." It gave no further information. http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2003/3/31/92553--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." He also broke perhaps the second rule of combat jounalism -- he was packing heat. REALLY f'in', stupid move since it places him at risk of being called a spy if captured and puts all other journos at risk as well. Gerry always wants to be the story than report on it -- too bad.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I know a very famous science fiction author (worth millions now) who use to run guns out of Cuba for a few friends of his. It's still stupid.
ADRNALN 0 #10 March 31, 2003 You must be kidding. Do you actually think that the kind of people that would "do something" to a reporter carrying a gun truly need the reporter's gun as a reason to kill. The enemy here is not playing by those rules. All that aside Rivera is a moron, who actually amkes shit up. And is a danger to all those around him in that kind of a heated area.
AggieDave 6 #11 March 31, 2003 QuoteAnd is a danger to all those around him Exactly! I only hope he doesn't come back to the US and become a "talking head", those guys already annoy me, I won't even guess how annoying he would be in that position.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." billvon 3,067 #12 March 31, 2003 >Do you actually think that the kind of people that would "do > something" to a reporter carrying a gun truly need the reporter's > gun as a reason to kill. No. In both cases the people who would attack him could only be stopped by force. In both cases it was still a dumb thing to do; in the US you can go to jail for running guns, and as a journalist you can either be booted out for carrying a gun or can be shot as a combatant for carrying it. Can you be shot even without it? Sure. But if you want to carry a gun and shoot at people, join the military and learn to do it right.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #13 March 31, 2003 I had a very long post put together, but deleted it because it was just a vent. Still, I will say that I think Geraldo is a typical lawyer-turned-reporter. Anything for the story, no matter how trivial that story may be. I have no respect for people that compromise people in the manner which he has shown. Screw him and those like him. Sensationalism be damned. Chuck
wmw999 2,532 #14 March 31, 2003 A woman I worked with in the late 70's came to Houston from NYC. She extolled the virtues of Geraldo Rivera -- but it was in the same way that people currently extol Anna Nicole's television virtues. I.e. he'd do anything to sensationalize a trivial story. Why are people surprised that he's still an idiot? Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. wmw999 2,532 #16 March 31, 2003 No, he was an idiot then, too. Being an idiot doesn't mean you're never capable of doing anything right, and being intelligent doesn't mean you're never capable of doing anything wrong. At least to us lefties Wendy W. jlmiracle 7 #21 March 31, 2003 I heard that he wasn't booted out also. DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE?: U.S. military to expel FOX NEWS CHANNEL's Geraldo Rivera from Iraq after violating rule, rival CNN claimed Monday morning, for giving away 'crucial details of future military operations during live broadcast'... Rivera drew a map in the sand indicating the position where the unit which he was embedded was located, where they were going... Members of the 101st Airborne Division will escort Rivera to the border with Kuwait, CNN said, quoting a Pentagon official... Geraldo Rivera said live on FOX this morning that he had not been expelled, and rival media outlets were spreading rumors... Developing... We saw him on TV today with the troops. jlmiracle 7 #23 March 31, 2003 Yeah, I saw that and it read he is still in Iraq and that the Military did not boot him, Fox agreed to withdraw him, yet was still on the TV today. I can find about 4-5 stories that say he was booted and bunch more of him denying it. I was slammed for a so called "Collin Powell" untruth. Who cares who said it if it makes you laugh. I'm not a Geraldo fan, just pissed off that it is Monday, my tummy hurts, my dad is in the hospital and 2000 miles away. I'm going home now, my day has sucked enough.
