two word

"They" "have" "LEGALIZED' "marijuana" "there," "have" "fun" "but" "be" "careful"

so I cant count! lol

I was thinking about this, if you do MJ in a country where it is LEGAL will you fail your security paperwork here in the US when they ask about your drug use?

And in all reality - it is not legal in Holland or Amsterdam, it is tolerated. Big difference (although not much considering I'll be walking into a "shop" of choice in a week and purchasing my warez of choice without too many worries)...

HEH HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH

I've heard the Bulldog is touristy as all hell and back from numerous resources...

Some very cool things about Amsterdam...Or so I'm told ;)
Virtually everyone speaks English, and they are more than pleased to help you out. The Dutch are cool people.
Public transport. You can get trams or busses everywhere you want to go, and day passes for canal busses are worth it.
Coffeeshops. Great coffee, food, beer, etc, plus all the cannabis you could wish for (you can only buy limited quantities at a time, but the limits are generous). You should only buy it where you feel comfortable, and never buy any drugs on the street. I'd recommend the Grasshopper for a first coffeeshop experience. Lisa mentioned the Bulldog, which is actually a chain of franchised coffeeshops/pubs, but equally reputable as the Grasshopper.
Red light district. Its not as seedy as it sounds, and is actually a tourist attraction. Its reasonably safe, but I'd exercise the same caution as I would in any major city.
Museums and art galleries are plentiful, exhibitions vary and are seasonal, if that floats your boat.

Jumping? I'd try and take some time out from the bachanale, and either go to Teuge, or Texel. Both are cool dzs, and reachable via public transport, Teuge certainly is. I think Dragon2 who posts here jumps at Teuge.

Apart from that buy a Rough Guide, or visit any of the plentiful tourist bureaus around the town.
Have fun, its a cool place.

It is true that Teuge is somewhat more reachable. This is because Texel is an island. How ever if you can make it to Texel I can assure you you won't be disappointed. Texel is a very cool DZ and has a beautiful view from 13.000 ft.

For more information on Teuge check out this website.

Hope this helps you make some choices. :)

I forgot to add that Schiphol has probably the best tax free shopping in the western hemisphere.

I think the dropzone easyest to reach from Amsterdam is actualy Hilversum
http://www.pcmn.nl/pcmnsite/freestyle.php?key=101&cntxt=english but Texel is probably the best place to go in terms of jumping, since they have the cool planes and altitude...
Paraclub Flevo is also reachable by train (40 minutes or so) and Skydive Rotterdam is also quite do-able (if you want to hop a few DZ's..there's quite a few DZ's in this tiny country...

Err... and some of the most paranoid airport security[:/]. This is based on the fact that even pre 9/11 and despite my honest face I have NEVER managed to transit through Schipol without being strip searched :o.

Then again, some of you may look on this as a further atraction:D.
