how difficult is it to become a pilot of one of these?
they look amazingly fun, like skydiving. you can get some altitude! 15,000ft+! i think that is just amazing...i mean think about it. flying a hang glider at that altitude for as long as you want. damn. is it hard to learn? is it safe?

Just like skydiving, hang gliding can be as safe or as dangerous as you want it to be. I know you can start off doing it as a tandem - then you can take a course in which you begin by flying solo under the supervision of an instructor-i think its all done by radio though. There is an introductory course and a novice course. generally it takes a few months to learn-up to about 6 months . In that time you learn to fly from a few hundread to a few thousand feet

Thats funny hang gliding showed up in the forums today! I grabbed a flyer on a local hang glider school today. I tried to call the guy today, but I think he must've been out hang gliding today. I thought I'd call him this week, because like skydiving, hang gliding is one of those things I've always wanted to do.
I told my wife, "I just want to try it once". She wasnt' amused because I said that not long ago about skydiving.
