Personal attacks

Recommended Posts

In the forum rules, It states "no personal attacks". But I have seen some replies to posts that personally attack our country! Like calling it an Illegal war, waged by an unelected president. This bothers me a little but I can accept it coming from an American citizen expressing their opinion. I however can't accept it coming from a non American from another country just bashing us! You can attack me but don't attack my country! Should we allow this to go on? Maybe those non americans should get warnings for personal attacks, because when you attack my country, I take it personally! I served in the USMC in Operation Desert Storm. It didn't matter if I supported it or not. As a US troop I had to do as I was ordered to do. Nobody likes war! Especially the troops who have to live with the fact that they might not come home. no personal attacks

I see it as a country, not a person. If it said "no country attacks" then I think you'd have a point.
And then we'd have to stop taking cheap shots at the French... and where's the fun in that?! And Canada - jesus.... there's a comedic goldmine there you'd be sealing up.

I disagree that "Freedom of Speach" is only for US citizens. We need to think more globally.

Some people just need to vent I guess. They lash out because they have no other way of expressing their feelings. They feel powerless so they post here on a skydiving forum. I just choose to read past it.

Edited to add: Kindergarten Rule #3: Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

And......Rule #4: I'm rubber. You're glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you!

Hi Vince,

You bring up a very valid question. The rule of no personal attacks refers to personal attacks on fellow dz.commers. We are allowed to voice our opinions on various topics, however we have the responsibility to look at our words and discern if they will insult or incite. If they are not contributing to the conversation in a positive way, then you are taking the thread in a direction Sangiro does not want it to go. I personally have seen comments that I thought were anti-Catholic. Being a Catholic, I could feel myself fuming and wanting to reply. However, the poster never insulted me personally and they are entitled to that opinion. There can be a gray area here, but the moderators and the boss are very good at deciphering when the line has been crossed.

Take care and enjoy the forums.

Chris

I see what you mean about venting, but I too would look past it. I felt I had to say something. I had restaint. I could have replyed by bashing them, but didn't.

Hey, I've been there too man. Look at some of the recent posts. Just trying to give a reminder I got recently too.

What do you expect! take a crack on America and let it slide?

Yes. Just like the Canadians, French, Germans, etc do when people crack on their countries here.

Responding to an attack on America with an attack on the poster solves nothing and goes against the basic rules of these forums.

It was me that said those comments that you took offence to.
You may not like it but this war is seen as illegal by most of the world including some of the best legal minds in both the UK and US. Your president wasn't elected by the majority of your nation and gained power through some very dodgy circumstances. It may have escaped your grasp but MY country is also taking part in this war. I support the troops who are out there in a situation that they should never have been put into, but am against the war.
My comments are not an attack on the US but on its current overseas policy. As a former serviceman I also followed orders but as a civilian I have the freedom to express my opinions.
America isn't the world and you don't have any more right to freedom of speach than I do. I supported the first Gulf war but I don't support this one, if you don't like it thats really just to bad.

Oh like Texas is any better! The only reason Texas doesn't slip into the Gulf of Mexico is because Oklahoma sucks!

That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time,

I've noticed that fewer and fewer non-Americans seem to be posting to the Talkback forum.

I still see many non-americans on here and welcome the diversity of opinions that they bring to the forums.

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

Because of threads like this.

I am NOT against this war, on the contrary - I support it. But I am very much against this attitude. Look at how many jibes the French had to take on this forum, and that is a country with a lot of skydivers.

Well, being anti-catholic, I take it personally when someone uses *God* in their arguments. Disagreeing with the US foreign policy, I'm a bit offended when someone is supporting it without much solid ground for their beliefs. And since I like the French and the Germans, well, you can imagine how deeply I am hurt by these sudden bashings they're taking from Americans.
Also, I don't like it when people use bad grammar, tell jokes in which animals suffer and I definitely don't like pink and purple parachutes that some of the posters here are so proudly displaying in their avatars.

I hope Sangiro will take these points into consideration when he rewrites the forum rules:P.
