Can you say, Prick?

Recommended Posts

Some dick head that is a wackado, like you have never known, is trying to shut down Kapow. This has been going on for years. BAD

He constantly videos everything. Even normal airplane op's. Has a restraining order against him for filming one specific person.

Has gone to amazing lengths to hurt us...

Here is the latest http://www.kirotv.com/news/1979634/detail.html

Done total bull stuff to endager our pilots. Now this.

All in all, he is showing his colors. But it is so comical.

OH, if you see this "special report" it is crap, he was circiling, listing to the jump frequency, then when he knew jumpers where out of the otter, he swooped under them in his plane.

Sick Puppy.

I am really looking forward to watching this broadcast, this is all making me a little 'ill'. I can remember one time I was at Kapowsin, when Jesse had to make a call because some airplane was flying over the dropzone when jumpers were there. It does sound like a lot of 'crap'. So I will be watching the news tomorrow.

I seriously hope that this guy doesn't have too much of an effect on Kapowsin. They are an AWESOME DZ, everybody there are great people and safety is their #1 concern. I hope something happens to this bastard. He should get his ass thrown in jail for this shit. There is no excuse for swooping a known dropzone during operation. What a jackass. That is all.

Prick! Prick Prick!

Hey look at that, I can.

In all seriousness, what is it we skydivers are always saying? If you don't get it on video it never happened, right? Well, bust out the video. Get shots of your pilot following all his safety regs before the jumpers leave the plane, get it recorded on the ground coming over radio, and have video on the ground every load. Whatever it takes to show that said prick is intentionally endangering people to carry out his vendetta. Mey, it might cost a little cash, but that beats the dz shutting down, right? If you have to, take up a collection from everyone. Hell if you all skip one jump over the weekend that right there ought to give you a decent "video defense" fund. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Sucks to have a prick like that around. We've got one at SDC, too. There's sure to be some alterior motive behind his actions, but nonetheless, what a pain to have to deal with it.

Maybe once we get down to business in Iraq, we can get some of their anti-aircraft surplus. I know a couple DZs that might be interested.

I think Blewaway got it....fight fire with fire. Video him breaching NOTAMS and set the FAA to do their job.
Case closed, DZO spared the legal hassles, nobody (that matters ;)) goes to jail, everyone keeps on jumping..

HI there,

Blewaway & NacMac are once again the voice of reason & maturity in this matter.

As such, it is only in the interests of balance that I suggest pouring 2 pints of AvGas into the guys oil tank:D.

Why would anyone do such dumb ass things? Do you or anyone else know what his motives are ? He needs to have his ass kicked and taken out of the sky before he actually manages to hurt someone. I'm guessing that he doesn't keep his plane near by and you guys don't know where he does keep it . If you do you maybe you could like go saw off the tail section or something . What a PRICK!!!!

Actually, if the drop zone wasn't contacted for comment, I'd work with the TV station to develop a follow-on story. Make it nice and juicy, include all the appropriate NOTAMs etc, and make sure there's a video of the guy endangering operations.

Make sure that whoever gives the interview doesn't have blue hair etc. Yes, it's stupid, but it makes a difference in perception, and it's perception you're using as a weapon.

Good luck, guys. The mantra is still without video, it never happened.

Hey...another thing...have you reported his behaviours before??? or if you can gather numbers from your dz to say what he's been doing over the years...surely his karma will get him!!
Wouldnt the person with the radio on the ground notify the pilot of any other aircraft in the area? I know we have to at our DZ, that's all;)

Once there was a small, boring man with a pretty 'safe' life.
He was happy at home, feeling king of the world with his tv remote in his hand, a good office-job and a few downpayments on his house and car.

Then one day...he saw people skydiving, and he saw then experience something that he never felt before.
People so passionate and joyfull over a single shared moment in time...

Instead of trying to live and feel it for himself, he got scared and walked away angry.... He wasn't the ultimate happy person in the world anymore, and his life felt empty...

"This has got to stop" he sayd to himself..and he set out on a quest to stop these people from ruining his fun in life, and he would not rest untill he succeded in doing so...so he could be safe at home again...without 'them' jumping around in his head..

He died lonely...

I'm thinking about doing just that.

I may take off today and go down to the TV station and give them a chance to present some balance, like about how this guy has been harassing Kapowsin for years, etc., but I've got to talk to the magazine first.

The key here is to de-fang the sensationalism and hype by presenting factual, logical, dull information that shows the viewers the boring truth.

OTOH, it's possible that "no publicity is bad publicity", and the story, ugly as it may be, could have a net positive effect.

Kapowsin has a couple of problems that attract attention. First, in the late nineties, there were two tandem fatalities in one week. Then, there was a suicide. The public just sees the raw numbers.

The public perception of tandems is a carnival ride. Not so, people die doing tandems. Skydiving has become so accepted that the public thinks that it should be safe. If people die, they think that the dropzone must be unsafe.

However, Kapowsin filed for a cloud clearance exemption with the FAA a couple of years back. Jumping too near clouds is regarded by the FAA as dangerous. Combine those problems with the existing public image and a reporter trying to enhance a career, there it is.

Whenever people want to mess with a dz, they video skydivers near clouds. There was a retired woman in Sebastian who used to spend all day videoing skydivers near clouds and sending the tapes to the FAA. Kapowsin attracted some attention by applying for the exemption also.

The dzo could do a lot by working within the system. Having a media contact on your side is a good thing. I have seen dzs close because of a bad relationship with the local govt and media.

There's more to it than that.

There is a resident of the Kapowsin air park who has sworn to shut the DZ down.

He has used every legal dirty trick available to portray the DZ in the most unfavorable light possible, including complaining to Pierce County about beer-drinking on the premises (forcing the Farringtons to buy a liquor license), videoing jumpers and calling the FAA any time he sees what appears to be a violation, etc. The FAA is duty-bound to respond to every complaint, however trivial. I'm sure the FSDO is sick of the guy, but they can't do anything about it either.

Even here in Canada we had some prick buzz the DZ in the summer a couple of times. Some of the experienced folks literally flew by on their canopies shouting at him before the plane outran them. This is not cool at all. There already was a skydiver to prop collision fatality, we don't need another one. Video is not even strictly necessary. If he admits to having been in the air with jumpers, he broke NOTAMS by his own words. Get the FAA on his case immediately, get him busted, then tell the press that story. How do these headlines sound:

"Terror in the Washington skies: Illegal and reckless piloting maneuvers endanger dozens of lives"

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

Any pilot who flies through the middle of an active DZ is STUPID!
Video his STUPID flying tricks and give it to the FAA.

At Snohomish - when someone blundered through the DZ - I got on the local unicom frequency and announced "Some idiot in a blue and white Citabria is flying through an active drop zone." They usually high-tailed it out of the area.
I want to emphasis that Snohomish's problem was "blundering", unlike the malicious actions of a certain Kapowsinite. The most dangerous week of the year at Snohimish was the same week as the Arlington Fly-In, when hundreds of visiting pilots passed through.

As for the yellow journalists at KIRO, I change chanels whenever the news comes on. Life is too short to ruin my karma listening to their scandal-mongering!

One time during the Arlington fly-in weekend in 1998, I was spotting on a Westerly jumprun at 12k over the student field. While I watched, a light plane passed right over the X at about 3k on an opposite heading, towards Arlington. Scary, but nothing like this incident at Kapowsin. The guy was deliberately putting jumpers at risk.

Well, you can't "break" a NOTAM. It's a NOtice To Airman. It is NOT the DZs airspace alone. It is merely advisory. In the U.S. we don't own the sky. No one owns the sky. Certain restrictions can be put on airspace around busy airports and there is different levels of restriction. But just having a NOTAM out that you are skydiving doesn't mean that you can clear the skies of all traffic. Is it dumb? Yes. Is this guy a neglegant hazard for flying under jumpers at Kapowsin? Yes again. But the impression that a DZ somehow owns the airspace above it is incorrect.

There is nothing the FAA will do for just flying through a DZ. Now if there was a collision then the FAA might site the pilot for trasgressing an active DZ and for not checking his NOTAMs. But that's only after the fact. And I agree that is sad.
