Need help choose right size V3 micron

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

If one of you guys could help me out with container sizing that would be great. I wrote UPT an email a couple days ago, but it takes them ages to answer.

I ordered a new JVX 99 and im about to order a PD reserve and a UPT Vector 3 (micron).

This is their sizing chart:
http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/CHART_00037___Rig_Sizing_Chart.pdf

Since they are not using a JVX as a sample on that chart im a bit hesitant because i dont want to order it without knowing for sure. If any of you guys knows which size is proper as "standard fitting" for the JVX 99 that would be a great help for me. As far as I can see, im stuck between sizes micron 304 and 306, but not sure if maybe im looking at this totally wrong...

Through your answers I will be also able to know what size PD reserve I would have to order. The reserve can easily be between standard fit and tight fit, right? I once heard someone say that you want your reserve 'tightly' packed... i have no idea how true or untrue that comment was.

I really appreciate your time on this, can't wait! :)
Thanks alot :)
Yako

For V3's I'd recommend standard or soft fitting for the reserve. It could be a pain in the ass for your rigger to get it in there and make it look good and FEEL good. It's no secret that if you have even a little too much bulk in the ears, it will fit your shoulders like a 2x4 of wood.

Not sure where you heard that you should have a reserve 'tightly packed'... I've never heard that before and usually hear quite the opposite.

Tell UPT what size and type of main and reserve and let them pick the container size. This is the only sensible and safe way to go. The reason we've seen container locks and reserve mals in the last 10 years on small rig is people who exceed manufacture's recommendations on container canopy sizing.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

...and when they do, whatever you got here will be superseded anyway!

:P

(On the gripping hand, you then get to wait much much longer for your container while it gets built.)

[edit: The epic wait time won't stop either of us buying a new Vector, obviously!]

If I'm not mistaken JVX comes in different types of fabric. If you by chance got the all sail fabric expect your 99 to pack up like a 170ish canopy. If you know nick batsch he jumps a 63 prior to his Petra and from the looks of his container it looked like a 135 ish sized rig, but then again he is a smaller guy like myself so may have just looked larger.

Choose your reserve first before choosing the container. What are you comfortable with?
