rgoper 0 #1 March 8, 2003 "PATRIOTISM INCLUDES QUESTIONING ACTIONS" QuoteWith President Bush rushing toward the dark road to war, millions of us around the world are letting our voices be heard. Many have been accused of being anti-American for speaking out against the government's actions. These are the voices that represent the hearts, minds and souls of the people. Is it anti-American to refuse to exercise blind obedience to those in power? Is it anti-American to question politicians who stand in silence in the face of repression? Is anti-American to refuse to exercise rampant and blind patriotism? Is it anti-American to question a government that has a long history written in blood? We are speaking about a government that in 1980 trained Osama Bin Laden and his fellow terrorists to fight against the Soviets with the backing of $ 3 billion by the CIA. And for years helped the Taliban in Afghanistan to fight the faction, now in power, which was being backed by the Russians. A government that in 1982 provided Saddam Hussein with biological weapons and billions of dollars in aid to fight the Iranians. And, in 1983 secretly supplied the Iranians with weapons to kill the Iraqis. In 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait with weapons sold to them by the U.S. In 1991 the U.S. goes to war against Iraq and reinstates a dictator in Kuwait. Since this we have bombed Iraq on a constant basis. Our sanctions have killed over 500,000 children. It's a government that has permitted intermediaries to accumulate mountains of wealth selling weapons to dictators around the world only to wage war against them when the politicians' self-interests subside. No other nation in the world possesses greater weapons of mass destruction than we do. This government is about to embark on a mission that will kill thousands of innocent lives for the enrichment and well-being of a few. War, after all, is big business and is waged not for the liberation of people, but for economic interests. Mobil had old oil concessions in Iraq since the 80's that it hasn't been able to exploit. Russia and France have contracts signed recently with Iraq for oil exploration. Oil reserves in Iraq are second only to Saudi Arabia. This war would turn Iraq into a toxic waste land and destroy the very lives the Bush propaganda claims to save. Did you know that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney both managed in their time to dodge the military service? (Note: the above article was written by Daniela Came, a contributor to the "Daily Bulletin" newspaper, in Ontario, Calif., and published on March 3, 2003) very interesting indeed. i remember a time in history when women couldn't even smoke in public, or vote, let alone serve on jury panels. this reporter has gone too far. how dare SHE speak her mind in a puplic forum. Edit: these remarks were intended to expose the senility and ignorance of our forefathers and others present day who try to opress other's right to free speach, etc...the reference to historical events was made in an attempt to enlighten the fact that some of us have the potential to regress in certain matters, thus the reference to SHE. i have great respect and admiration for the female reporter.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

Nice slam on women there, Richard. SHE dares speak her mind in a public forum because she has a right to - as does everyone, whether they are male, female, white, black, brown, green, purple, straight, gay, married, single, parent, childless, right wing reactionary, left wing liberal, veteran of the military, avowed pacifist, intelligent and well read or ignorant... even if the views expressed don't agree with yours, mine or anyone else's. rgoper 0 #11 March 9, 2003 i don't have the words ladies. i thought ya'll knew me better. if i didn't agree with what this young lady had to say, or her right to say it, i wouldn't have posted this, the perception of my post is all wrong. sorry ladies, i would like to explain further, the rest pm'd... please see my edit in original--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
cmnorris 0 #12 March 9, 2003 I got it....thank you for including the line about the female reporter. On a somewhat related subject - I often wonder if some of my views are a product of being female. Such as, I wonder if my view of this impending war (hope it doesn't happen) would be different if I was a male.

(GULP) but my feelings were hurt when i read the responses. but i guess that's how it goes if you want to express yourself, this shows it can and will go one of two ways.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
skymama 37 #14 March 9, 2003 Thanks for the edit. It just goes to show how words can be misinterpreted on the forums, esecially in the stressful times that we are living in these days. 12bhi 0 #15 March 9, 2003 I didnt perceive the post to be a slam against women otherwise I wouldnt have agreed..I thought of it as momentary sarcasm,in the womens favor.. Hell,if a women ever runs for pres. I'll vote for her as long as her last name isnt bush..
rgoper 0 #16 March 9, 2003 QuoteHell,if a women ever runs for pres. I'll vote for her as long as her last name isnt bush.. that makes two of us. personally i think we need a female voice in the white house to add another "perspective" on the chain of events that make the big blue marble go round and round. i posted here a while back that the democratic ticket next election will host lieberman/clinton (no, not bill) and i will vote that way, this could eventually lead to the election of our very first female president.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

I can not follow a Godless man. He goes to Church and the pitiful say "Oh but he's pro-life"---oh, really, When? A Holy War's called then I'll gear up but, who's the enemy? rgoper 0 #19 March 9, 2003 Dave: you certainly added another perspective to my thoughts. but the political system was different under her regime there than it would have been in the US. i think the presidency couldn't be hurt any at all if it were to be co-ed. we've tried everything but that, and what we do have instituted isn't panning out well. we'll see! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
