lawrocket 3 #1 March 5, 2003 Every time we get an earthquake out here, I have friends from all over wondering if I'm okay. We had a piss ant 5.4 a couple of weeks ago. We shit those out here. Over a 6.5? That'll pique our interest. They usually say, "I could never live where there are earthquakes." Well, having been through a tornado, I'll take an earthquake any day. At least you don't see them coming. Tornadoes. Those scare the hell outta me. - My wife is hotter than your wife.
freakous 0 #2 March 5, 2003 I am not afraid of Volcanos, but an eruption might be a bit uneasy. Although, likely magnificent to watch from a far.
AggieDave 6 #3 March 5, 2003 Well, the only thing we get in this part of Texas is Tornados and Floods, so those are my choices. All the others only apply to California, so I don't really care, it doesn't effect me. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Muenkel 0 #4 March 5, 2003 You don't have a choice for "neither." I have been through all except the volcano, tsunami or avalanche. I guess with all these choices it depends on whether you are in the direct path or not. If I had to choose, I would not want to be buried by volcano lava. gale 0 #5 March 5, 2003 I think it really depends on where you live. I'm on an island on the "ring of fire" so obviously earthquakes worry me. No, not a 5.1 earthquake but statistically we're overdue for "the big one" and that worries me. Oh, and if the big one hits, I suspect there will be a tsunami to go with it. (Did I mention I like on an island.....tsunami's bad) GaleI'm drowning...so come inside Welcome to my...dirty mind
QTPi 0 #6 March 5, 2003 I've seen two tornadoes and both scared the hell out of me. Literally made me sick to my stomach. I'm sure my vote might be different if I lived in a different part of the world. -- A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. -Oliver Wendel Holmes
skydivegirl 0 #7 March 5, 2003 I voted tornados... they scare the hell out of me too! I've always wanted to see/study an erupting volcano!!!!! I'm a geologist so I'm a nerd like that . I also think that, being a geologist, I should be in an earthquake at least once... I think it's a rule. We don't get anything you can feel in Alabama/Georgia though . blewaway5 0 #8 March 5, 2003 I don't generally worry about natural disasters. I've been through more tornadoes than I can count, actually saw one come towrds us, lift off and then set down about 100 yards further down the line. That's the one that had me nervous. Okay, I was scared sh*tless. I've been through most of those listed, and most of them you're either gonna be okay or be dead, but you usually have a clue they're coming. (I siad usually) I think man made disasters are scarier, though. Truman Sparks for President
happythoughts 0 #9 March 5, 2003 I've seen wild fires, tornadoes, and quite a few hurricanes. With a hurricane, you get 3 days notice and go somewhere else for 2 days. My house was on a canal and the hurricane did not even affect my dock. However, I did lose the house in my divorce, so I consider my ex-wife to be a natural disaster based on the amount of damage that she inflicts on everyone around her. CanuckInUSA 0 #10 March 5, 2003 I choose Avalanche and Blizzard seeing as those are two which are likely to effect me where I live and play. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Muenkel 0 #11 March 5, 2003 QuoteAll the others only apply to California Huh? Hurricanes, mostly east and gulf coast. Floods, think Mississippi for example. Blizzards, Northern half of the country from the rockies to the east coast. Tornadoes, plain states primarily, but they do happen in the northeast. Earthquakes, can happen anywhere. Yes, primarily in California, but we have experienced earthquakes in the East. Volcanos, well, wherever there are volcanos. hooked 0 #16 March 5, 2003 I personally would worry about any of them! Of course not all of them would effect me where I live, but maybe earthquake, tsunami, flooding, volcano eruption, those, I could possibly experience. I've been close to a volcanic eruption, not fun (kind of scary with disastrous results), been through several earthquakes (the last one was the scariest). No matter where any one should happen to live there is a threat of a natural disaster. I haven't experienced all of them, and I don't think I care to anytime soon. BoobieCootie 0 #17 March 5, 2003 Earthquake for sure. We had one back in 2001 measuring 6.8. The fact that the building I work in was built over what was once Seattle's waterfront assures me that I don't want to be in it for the next one or a bigger one whichever comes first. I also live in an area that's close to Mt Ranier. Should it blow, let's just kiss WA bye bye thanks to the mudflow and ash after the shaking stops. You know, the people from California are going to say, 6.8?????? That's nothing!!!! But our earthquakes are a little bit different than what California experiences. I'm not saying one is any worse than the other, just that they are different and both with devastating results. I wouldn't even want to think about Mt. Rainier erupting, but there is always the chance. Earthquake? I know we will have another one and bigger this time. Sebazz1 2 #23 March 5, 2003 Would a meteor or asteriod smaking into our planet count as a natural disastor? Cause that's what I would put down. Second though would be earthquake. Though they don't scare me terribly and I have felt several, it's the potential for a really really really bad one that scares me.
