Michele 1 #1 February 27, 2003 Just wanted to give props to Stephen aka Blewaway5. He put up a thread about "Good Vibes...nothing but"...and when I was responding to that thread, I decided I was gonna "vibe" tonight. I grabbed the phone, and invited my father out for dinner, restaurant of his choice. We had a great visit, and long talks about politics (we are on different sides of the fence), both listening respectfully to each other's points. We talked about family and friends, and an upcoming charity thing we do together. Made it a point to chat with the server, and see if I could make the server smile everytime she came to the table. Made sure I spent a minute with the manager and let him know how great the service and the food was tonight, and thanked him for it. Know what happened?? Dessert and drinks were comped...because we were having fun and spreading the "vibes". Made sure a good tip was left, and then Dad and I toddled off to the bookstore, where my sole goal was to make people smile...and did that again. And yes, I bought some books, too. Which made me smile. Thanks, Stephen, for giving me the idea. Stranger smiles are fun, and spending that most vital commodity, time, with my father was really most excellent. I wonder who I'll make smile tomorrow? And who can you make smile tomorrow? misskriss 0 #2 February 27, 2003 Thanks Michele.....too often we forget that those around us are going through life just like we all are. And some may be going through a lot worse. I went into the 7-11 the other morning (as I do every morning) to get coffee after I drop my oldest off at school. The clerk that works there says to me.. broken English and preciously so.." you not smile today.....why you don't smile....smile for me, Kristen...life is good..." He made me smile.... I try and make everyone I see smile, but after being cooped up in this house all winter, it's gonna take warm temps, income, and a turbine to get me smiling again. It's your life, live it! Shark 0 #6 February 27, 2003 That's a very nice "good vibes" story. If only we can all have that kind of attitude everyday.
Michele 1 #7 February 27, 2003 Quoteyou not smile today.....why you don't smile....smile for me, Kristen...life is good... Yup. It is. Sometimes it's soooo hard. But it's also good. I'm glad he made you smile. QuoteIf only we can all have that kind of attitude everyday. [Smile] Yeah, I know. And I can't do it every day. Some days it's almost too much for me to even get out of bed. But how cool to try for it, even briefly every day, you know? blewaway5 0 #8 February 27, 2003 aw, you're welcome I'm glad I made your day a little better. To be totally honest, though, I think I had it better. It was really cool to see that many people come up with something 'vibey.' BTW, I'll share this here in your thread cause I get the feeling you just might be able to appreciate a bit more than some might...I'm officially gonna have a published piece of writing! Nothing big, no money (probably) out of the deal, but hey, a poem I wrote will officially be around for a long freakin time, if only in the library of Congress. mouth 0 #11 February 27, 2003 Congrats Stephen. Don't knock the fact that you were chosen. The fact that you put yourself out there and were picked is an honor. Treat it as such. Michele 1 #12 February 27, 2003 QuoteSo you see, the odds are really kinda stacked in my favor So what? Doesn't diminish the accomplishment one single wee bit, my friend. Be proud of that. 1400-1500 out of how many hundreds of thousands submissions? I mean, really! Give yourself the pat on the back you deserve, Stephen. And if you win $$, so much the better. And I repeat: YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! blewaway5 0 #13 February 27, 2003 Ok, two things--first, Lisa, sure, if you want to read it then I can post it, and thanks for the encouragement. Second, Michele, I'm fairly positive you are a normal human who must have something bad about her, but damn, you rock. I've not been actively posting for more than a year or so, if that, but I've never seen, or even heard rumors of, negative things coming from you. Thanks for the encouragement, and now I'm gonna hit you right back with it. If you've got anything to submit to any place that publishes things, go for it. What's the worst that could happen? I just read about a guy who submitted a first manusctipt that was rejected 37 times. No changes made, and on 38 it was accepted, printed, and promptly went to #1 bestseller. Who knows? She writes beautifully and with such feeling. People are enthralled and mesmerized by her stuff. ( HINT, HINT, girl!) -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. blewaway5 0 #15 February 27, 2003 Okay, Lisa, here you go. Hope you like it a little at leastFar Away As a distant rumble carries on the breeze the moon begins her slow ascension. A man standing just outside the pale glare of a street light casually drops his cigarette, preparing for what he knows must come. Half a continent away his mind has flown, even as he struggles to bring it home again. With an olympic effort he begins to regain control. At just that moment the distant rumble speaks and a deep, mournful whistle pierces the night's reverie, sending his mind on with wishes of godspeed. The man at first clings to his control, But soon he must succumb. With an incredible swiftness he is there, remembering what used to be. A warm autumn evening punctuated by love's sweet first kiss; a wintry night under a starry canopy holding her in his arms; all of these and more, all set to the haunting sound of a train passing, somewhere, far away. Well, that's it. Truman Sparks for President

ladyskydiver 0 #20 March 3, 2003 Congrats on getting a poem published! Did you get invited to the convention? My mom got a poem published by them and we just spent the weekend in Florida at the International Poets Convention that poetry.com puts on. My mom got a ribbon and trophy for it. Didn't win the $20,000, but the trip was all good.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.
