slowjoe 0 #1 February 25, 2003 just wondering if there's many skydivers that do not drink (alcohol).. and if the people at their local DZ also think they're strange because of this.. and if it annoys them that people still expect them to buy beer for everyone else.. Beerlight 0 #2 February 25, 2003 Nobody said you have to drink it, just buy it........ cheers
blewaway5 0 #3 February 25, 2003 No one's gonna care if you don't want to drink, and as fas as you buying stuff for firsts, you can a)bring a case of whatever you drink, be it beer or soda or milk or whiskey, or b) not bring anything for firsts but don't take anything from other people's offerings to the god of first. I'd recommend a, just cause it's more fun and no one is gonna care if you bring beer for the night or root beer for the day. JJohnson 0 #4 February 25, 2003 I don't drink, it don't offend anyone or bother anyone at the DZ....they figure if I was any bigger of an asshole drunk than I am sober, its a good thing. I still buy beer, cause thats the tradition.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"

TB99 0 #6 February 25, 2003 I don't really drink ... usually only when I have to buy the case will I have 2 or 3. Other than that, it's not often at all, hardly ever. I don't get any greif about it either, it's all good ... to each their own. Oh, and I buy all my owed beer! I'm definately good about that. Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!
sarge 0 #7 February 25, 2003 I'm not sure what you're asking because there are there are the, "Friends of Bill Skydivers" 12-steppers. Their ads run often in the mags... Then again, the "beer" tradition is not bound soley to the convention of alcoholic beverages. 'Beer' is truly a convention with heritage in our community but is by no means a neccessity of offering to the occasion celebrated. .-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!! AggieDave 6 #12 February 25, 2003 I drink and most of the people at my DZ drink. When someone is around that doesnt' drink, we don't saying anything about it that's negative. Usually we're very supportive and respect that person for their decision. That's how it should be, don't let anyone try to give you a hard time about not drinking.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Samurai136 0 #17 February 25, 2003 My drinking is inversely related to the number of skydives made that day or intended to make the next day. On the weekends I'll make 7-10/day thus no beer. I hate jumping w/ a hangover. If I know the weather will be bad the next day; I'm organizing a trip to the strip clubs!Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Squeak 17 #19 February 25, 2003 I dont drink, over 12 years clean and sober I do drive the DZ stayovers to the PUB on Saturday evening for dinner and a few, then back to the Hanger to work on their Hangerovers Then I wake at about 6am and start making lots of noise with the leave blower on the packing carpet. I also buy beer for fisrts, but I'm gonna change that to Coke or Pepsi, so that I dont go thirsty You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! smiles 0 #20 February 25, 2003 I have never figured out why- I don't like beer- (same with any carbonated drink)...just cannot get it down. No kidding takes me all night to drink a beer. Know a few other skydivers that don't drink. Honestly I could drink everyone under the table at any d.z. as type 1 diabetes, drinking just raises my blood sugars- I never get drunk - just have to inject more insulin all night...(so it ain't pleasurable to drink.) I do get to watch others---and learn many things about how alcohol can make or break a persons character. Try not to loose respect for everyone because it is hard to have buddies you do not respect. skygirlpc 0 #24 February 25, 2003 I don't drink, but I don't mind hanging around while they do. I leave when it gets to wild for my taste. As far as buying beer, I'm really not comfortable with supplying it, so I either bring sodas or bake something or have even brought the goods for a cookout. That way it gives us something to hang around for. I guess I've just gotten creative! Now, for people giving me a hard time about it.... I think most people will respect you for your beliefs or decision not to drink as long as you are respectful to them! Most of the comments that I get just come from the disbelief that I really don't want to drink! At first they don't really understand it, but once they know where you stand they don't care! lawrocket 3 #25 February 25, 2003 I drink. But, I think I have had a total of two beers at the dropzone. I've never stayed long into the night at the DZ, though. I usually leave while it's still light since I usually have other things to do. I look forward to the time when I have the time and energy to stick it through.
