Raefordite 0 #2 February 23, 2003 Ok - I give - any studies on percentages of injuries to number of jumps, say compared to that of snowboarding? Or any other sport with lots of speed?
miked10270 0 #3 February 23, 2003 Bugger the mountain goat... Wait a minute, let me re-phrase that. Check this one - http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_751989.html?menu=news.quirkies.eccentrics I fugure 2 belly flyers to stabilise the board, one girl to do the actual ironing, and somebody to film it. If we can launch a Honda out the back of a Skyvan, then a 4-way doing some ironing shouldn't present that much of a problem. SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 February 23, 2003 You read all of it? The mountain goat was nothing compared to the rest of the injuries ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
Raefordite 0 #5 February 23, 2003 Ok - when and where? I bet that board will be a little tougher to hold unto than the iron. And talk about difference of fall rate with that board!
jerm 0 #6 February 23, 2003 Quote Ok - I give - any studies on percentages of injuries to number of jumps, say compared to that of snowboarding? Or any other sport with lots of speed? That'd be tough... as there don't seem to any good statistics for skydiving injuries. Even if you just went by insuance claims, you've still got not only the problem of the large number of uninsured jumpers (though maybe this is comparable to other sports and would factor out?), but the idea that i would imagine mane jumping injuries being lied about as havign happened some other way for fear of not being covered. Also, how do you compare risk levels? does 1 jump = 1 skiing run? Is it a long run (colorado) or a short run (poconos)? For motocross, is it one race or 1 lap? This gets even more difficult with things like hangliding where 1 repetition of the activity can last quite a while... or better yet.. snowmobiling.. Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

And talk about difference of fall rate with that board! stand the board on is side, have 2 heavy people holding it and a lighter person with the iron... though i think, photographically, the board holders in a sit and the ironer headdown would look a lot better.. Raefordite 0 #8 February 23, 2003 Alrightie then - Have you seen the half size little wooden ironing boards? I find them in the hotels on occasion. Maybe one can be borrowed. Then one big guy can hold unto it while the other pulls for him and the board can be used again in case the first photo shoot doesn't turn out. Of course I'd hate to pull and hold onto an iron........

miked10270 0 #10 February 23, 2003 Quote though i think, photographically, the board holders in a sit and the ironer headdown would look a lot better.. Yeah, I guess it's gotta look good as well... I was thinking belly flyers 'cos that's recognisable to the "Great Unwashed" as skydiving. I also figure that if we can keep a rubber dinghy with 3 folk in it (or even an AFF L1 student) stable then we should manage an ironing board? One other thought was ONE guy (NOT ME) head down & the iron board vertical (maybe stabiliesed with a drogue?). For video, would it be technically possible to launch a dinghy, then move in on the dinghy for a close up of the ironing, then back out again. One small point... Apparently in "Competition Extreme Ironing" (yes, there IS such a competitive sport), they're also scored on the QUALITY of the ironing!!!!!! Anyway, I'll leave it to a big dropzone to do - I'll just wait for the pics & vid. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Then the two sitters at each end, .. might be good...to add color and symmetry......Is it sensible to create a "prop" iron,,? which has much less mass,,, than an iron iron,,,.. and holding it through deployment is easier. jerm 0 #14 February 23, 2003 probably quite sensible.. either that or make sure you've tethered the real one in a substantial way... that is unless yer doing it over teh deser or the everglades... still have to figure out the board, tho.
