SkydiveMonkey 0 #1 February 21, 2003 Anyone else having problems with it? Normally when I minimise it, i get an error message, and explorer (not IE) restarts. ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
scottbre 0 #2 February 21, 2003 I was having so many problems with it that I uninstalled it. Typical of anything new that Microsoft releases, it is crap. Here are just a few issues I had: I couldn't switch to full screen (Alt-Enter) When I tried to it would get all funny and do all sorts of strange things, like freeze the video and continue the sound, flip the video upside down or over, or stop working all together. It also wouldn't stay set on the skin that I had picked for it. I'm completely happy with the default media player that installs with windows, so I will continue using that. Oh yea, did I mention that Microsoft sucks. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

CrazyIvan 0 #7 February 21, 2003 I've never either, but, some people have a lot of softrware installed and perhaps one or two DLLs got corrupted, SP 'usually' fixes that.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. hooked 0 #8 February 21, 2003 So.....can you play all the downloaded video clips in the default player? The WFFC clip said it needed Media Player 9, which I don't have, I have Media Player 7. I am hesitant to install MPlayer 9. I don't need any more computer problems.J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. trilete312 0 #9 February 21, 2003 OHHH Media 9 is the Mother of Blue Screens of Death for me, I installed on my old Win98 POS and Poof. Hitting Play now equals hitting Ctrl - Alt - Del. On my Win XP machine no problems. Damn Bill Gates for not letting me install my licensed copy of WinXP on my other machine. I know I know copyright stuff, but come on I have survived Dos 3, Dos 5, Win 3.1, Win 98, Win ME, and Windows XP. Haven't I forked enough cash to OS's yet?----------- Ready, Set, Gooooooo

PhreeZone 20 #11 February 21, 2003 You don't need to install The whole media player, jist install the Codac's. Lets you keep your player and still see the video.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

So, if I have Media Player 7, I can just load the codacs for Media Player 7 or do I need the codacs for Media Player 9? I have Win98SE, will any of that be a problem? PhreeZone 20 #14 February 21, 2003 Download the codacs from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx there and install them. It will leave version 7 installed and just adds support for files created with version 9.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
ChasingBlueSky 0 #15 February 21, 2003 I have had nothing but problems with it so far. Go back in and check your settings. I've found that it sets all media files to play on it, even if you choose not to have it play a specific type. For instance - I didn't want it to play MP3's since I like my QCD player. QCD was set as the MP3 file type association on the OS (I have XP SP1), but whenver I opened my MP3 folder - system crash or hault (usually the page file and CPU usage would peak). After noticing that the File type icon was blank, I opened WMP9 and checked the options on it. Yup, in the program it has MP3 selected in one of its file types. I have installed this on four machines now, and it did it each time. Also, if you tell the WinInstaller not to allow WMP9 to update your media files via the internet, it will default the setting to "on" anyhow. I came home from work to find alll my media files on my machine "updated" by WMP9 because it felt it had to update the tags I had on them. I had spent a few weekends updating all my music files to have a specific ID3 tag, and WMP9 changed ALL of them without my permission (yup, the one day I forgot to turn my firewall on). So, check all the settings on WMP9. I still find it interesting that MS is allowing other OS's besides XP upgrade the media player - they originally announced the only way you could get version 8 or higher was by upgrading your OS to XP. Maybe if they crash enough 9x machines, people will upgrade out of frustration. But don't forget the MS policy - there are no bugs, only hidden features and user error._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Windows 2000, in my opinion, is the best OS ever to come out of Redmond. Now, I admit, I have a copy that beats the crap outta most of their products in ease of install. Connections people, connections! Actually, any student can get wat I have, and it's worth it! It's Windows 2000 Professional, academic edition. Well, academic edition is a bit of a misnomer. They should call it free edition, since that's what it says on the installs! $30 to any post high school student, and it doesn't even need a CD key to install! Just format a drive, pop in the cd, and let it go! This also works nicely on my home network, since the true Pro version is 'supposed' to check for duplicate liscense numbers on the network. Well, no liscense numbers means to conflicts so all 3 of the computers here are running W2000 off the one CD. $30 for 3 computers running NT technology? Can't complain one bit! It's your life, live it! Karma RB#684 "Corcho", ASK#60, Muff#3520, NCB#398, NHDZ#4, C-33989, DG#
