none4mety 0 #1 August 17, 2007 I am planning on getting my A license and I have been looking around for a good local DZ. I found a place that does IAF (Instructor Assisted Freefall) instead of AFF, the primary difference seems to be that the student will do 3 tandem (ugh) jumps (IAF L1-3) go on to IAF Level 4 with only one instructor. Personally I do not have any concern with this as I have jumped a few times 12 years ago (AFF But I did not complete it due to non-skydiving related issues) and I know how I react to freefall. This seems to be a little cheaper and is why I think ill go this route. Anyone have any concerns or comments about this method? Safe as AFF? DZ says IAF is done by USPA member DZs Also web site states that A license can be obtained in as few as 13 jumps. BenI Like Pie
PhreeZone 20 #2 August 17, 2007 One of the requirements on the A licence is "Complete 25 freefall skydives" so getting it in 13 jumps is not possible. Using a hybird program has been done at many DZ's very successfully over the last few years since it allows the nerves to be shaken off on a tandem while still recieving instruction and the TI is able to work more closely on canopy skills. I'd approach the DZ and see if they could alter the program for you based off your previous experience. Show them your logbook and see what they could do in terms of customizing their program to fit your needs.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
johnny1488 1 #3 August 20, 2007 My DZ (the ranch) does IAF and we have changed the program around individual peoples needs. Talk to them about your situation. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Ben Are you sure it doesnt say that you can graduate from the IAF program in as little as 13 jumps? You still have to complete more jumps & I think a written exam before you get your A license. You may be able to skip over 1 or all 3 of the Tandem jumps with your previoous experience. Those are the most $$$ jumps.
none4mety 0 #5 August 22, 2007 That is right, I misunderstood it, it was a bit ambiguously worded, but after checking a bit more I found that I will need at least 25 jumps total for the A license. BTW the DZ is the ranch, Thanks to those that replied, I hope to be there next weekend, or the weekend after.I Like Pie
