blewaway5 0 #1 February 20, 2003 I'm sorry, everybody, if this offends someone who really loves their pet, but when I heard about this I only had one response, and it was as follows. *ahem* BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I mean, c'mon, I've been upset when pets have died, hell, I even cried when a dog I had died when I was 15, but this is just plain nuts. Anyhow, whichever way you swing on this one, hope you enjoy a little piece of insanity from my neck of the woodsrolling acres Truman Sparks for President
Gawain 0 #2 February 20, 2003 I can see why some may think it's a bit gratuitous, but I can say from my own experience it's definitely not a new thing. I'm not trying to belittle the humor you see in it.Our dogs have always been more than just pets. When my family lived in Connecticut, we lived an old house in Fairfield County (built in 1836). It was built on about 4.5 acres of land, mostly unimproved. On one end of the property, there was a garden on a broad terrace. Directly beyond that was a "pet cemetery" which was started by the original owners of the house, who apparently buried 3 dogs there. Ever since, the cemetery grew, dogs, cats, goldfish, etc. They provided genuine tomb markers or gravestones. We ended up burying 3 dogs there as well. We weren't as eloquent with the grave markers (some previous owners had marble and granite stones placed), but Alex, Whimsey, and Fang found their final place there. Good dogs. Good family members. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! blewaway5 0 #3 February 20, 2003 Don't get me wrong, I've had some amazing pets, and to tell the truth, most of them are buried in my own families 'unofficial' pet cemetery. I just have a hard time justifying that much money on a dead animal when it could go to something much more worthwhile. Not to mention I'd freak if I went to a pet funeral, complete with a viewing and a casket. But like my Dad always says, it takes all kinds to keep things running. Of course, he also always tells me never to wear anything with my name on it because no matter how good I am every one screws up eventually. When that time comes it's generally best if not everyone knows your name Truman Sparks for President
jerry81 10 #4 February 20, 2003 It really not a new idea, but still a rather insane one. Why would you pay 600$ for your pet's funeral when you can do it yourself in your backyard, a quiet spot in the woods or on an old indian burial ground?
mouth 0 #5 February 20, 2003 I'm with you here Gawain because our family pets are burried in a quiet spot on the family farm. They each have simple markers to show their final resting place. One dog in particular even has my mothers favorite flowers planted on his grave because he was so loyal to her when she was very ill. I still tend his grave because he was so special to her. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
