Jessica 0 #1 February 19, 2003 I need cheering up, so therefore I need a new pet. Here is a picture of the kind of bird I want. Isn't it cute? Quakers are illegal in 10 states. Usually they're green, but this is a blue mutation (about five times as expensive as a green one). Damn it, I need this birdie! Gawain 0 #4 February 19, 2003 I had a Conure for a while. He required more attention than any other pet/companion I've ever had. The bigger, more exotic the bird, likely the larger the time investment required. If you have the time, the rewards will be amazing. If you don't, expect difficulty with training, assimilation, etc.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Zenister 0 #14 February 19, 2003 you know i never much liked birds as pets...my roommate has two that are kinda cool. They have actual personalities and all, but there's something horribly ironic about skydivers owning birds with clipped wings.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Luv2Fall 0 #15 February 19, 2003 I have a "standard" green & gray Quaker....one of my favorites. They are very intelligent and are great little talkers. Possessing the intelligence that the Quakers do, be sure to keep plenty of bird toys or rotate his/hers toys as to prevent boredom for these guys. Their only "downfall" that I'm aware of is even if the Quaker has bonded to you, he is extremely territorial and doesn't appreciate a hand in his cage. Away from their cage......a delightful little bird.

Jessica 0 #20 February 19, 2003 Quotebut there's something horribly ironic about skydivers owning birds with clipped wings.. Not really. My birds are fully flighted, but clipping the wings of a pet bird actually will usually make for a happier pet. Zenister 0 #22 February 19, 2003 while those are all good reasons they are also for the convenience of the humans..i bet if we could ask the bird its opinion, it would rather be able to fly. imagine going thru life with a horse hobble on your ankles, yes you can still function, still live a reasonable, productive life, but you cant run, and wont ever know the joy of running. you could even argue that running isnt as much a natural part of life for humans as flying is for birds.....after all if they weren’t pets they would be flying for however long their life might last.. i guess its a quality of life thing with me..knowing the limited flight i get to experience i cant imagine taking it away from someone else to make them better pets.. don’t get me wrong Xaos & Baby (my roommates birds) are pretty cool (for birds) but it makes me sorta sad everytime one of them does its sad flailing flare to the ground…____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Jessica 0 #23 February 19, 2003 Trimmed birds = dogs on a leash = keeping cats inside = fish in a tank. It's part of having a pet. Sorry it makes you sad. I hope you don't own a pet.Skydiving is for cool people only
Zenister 0 #24 February 19, 2003 i dont at the moment (travel to much still) but i do ussually have dogs and cats..no i dont keep my cats inside (nor do i declaw them) or put my dog on a leash (uless required where i'm going) dogs can be trained to heel. Cats learn to survive or they dont. I try to live in places where it reasonably safe to let cats out..(of course i wouldnt have a cat at Eloy, it would just be prey to the coyotes) Loss is a fact of life. I want my pets to have as full a life as i can give them, not measured by the length of time i have with them (long may it be), but by the quality of the time we spend together or apart. ps..fish arent pets they are decorations ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. phatcat 0 #25 February 19, 2003 I can tell you from experience that declawed cats are perfectly happy inside a warm house sleeping on the couch. They really couldn't care less if you're even there or not, except when it's time to eat.
