Make it stop, make these crappy "reality" shows stop!

While you were watching that tonight, I was watching a fun show: Monster Garage. Every week I watch and say one of 2 things: "damnit, I wish I had that xxx(insert tool name). or "damnit, I wish I could weld that good!"

I watched it, and I didn't even watch the show up until then! :S Yes, it has a twist, but I thought it seemed a little predictable.

*SPOILER* *SPOILER* *SPOILER* *SPOILER*

Don't read this if you don't want to know!

He picked the one with the dark hair (Zora?), gave her a big ring which she wore on her right hand, and at the end the show gave them a million dollars.

The best reality show has been on the air for something like 14 years now. Doesn't come any better than Cops. Today's "reality" shows are nothing more than extremely elaborate game shows.

I'm with skymama on this one....its was predictable. Either they were going to get a ton of money from tv show appearances and what not or the show ended up giving them the money. I guessed that from day one. although, I was told earlier today she had a choice between the guy and the money. guess that person was wrong. zora handled it all pretty well. I really wanted to see her not show up or just get really pissed off....now that would have been worth the 2 friggen hour wait.

Honestly, I did not even watch, have not watched an episode yet. But a lot of people predicted that. Besides I think it is a lie. or more to come. I think he has money. I think the trick is on us. That will be the last twist. Do some reasearch on him...he has done a bit of modelling, etc, etc. I think it is a big farce. I am boycotting reality TV. I hated Real World, Road Rules, and everything since. Only thing I may may watch is Fear Factor, just because occasionally they have cool aerial stunts. Why? because reality tv is not real! And you think it is cool. Well take a look at all the people my sister's age that grew up thinking that their life should be like the Real World. Thanks a lot TV mogul asshats. Personally give me BBC and the discovery/tlc/hist suite of channels and I dont need anything else.

I usually, with this exception, belong to the group of people who sneer at "reality" TV and those who are so fascinated by it. But then a friend of mine got hooked, and I thought, "Alright, lemme see what this crap is all about," and it sucked me in. Dammit!

About 55 minutes of the show was worthless filler and commercials. BUT, there were almost five minutes that cracked me up: Sarah had this confident, smug look on her face throughout, and then in the end, she looked more shocked that he didn't choose her than at the revelation of his non-existent fortune. After practically pitying Zora for her lack of sophistication, she got dumped. That was kinda cool.

And he really was bowled over by the check. I thought that was cute. Even though he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer...

From now on though, if ANYONE tells me how cool a reality series is, I'm going to plug my ears and go "LA LA LA LA LA!"

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

The thing is that gets me, and feel free to disagree because I did not watch any of it. But do you really think those reactions are real? One of my biggest problems with 'reality' shows as that they are for the most part staged. And even IF we assume that they are real people. They are certainly not average people like you or I. And they usually behave very conciously of the camera. To me it just encourages everyone to show the worst aspects of human nature: overdramatization, jealousy, conceit, etc.

I once met a MTV Real World cast. Their "reality" was driving around the country doing fun stuff or going to Hawaii and staying in a 5-star hotel. All the while, getting paid for it!

In addition, there was the crew of the show always catering to their whims. Even the slightest inconvenience was a major ordeal. What part of "real" is that? All I ever heard was complaints and whining.

Living in a mansion with Joe Millionaire and doing all the rich people recreations for 2 months is hardly "real".

Why not use their real education and experiences to base the show on? Have them go to work as a clerk in a department store, pay their rent, establish a budget, drive a beat up car... you know... "reality".
