somethinelse 0 #1 February 5, 2003 I'm still AFF...But ALSO seriously thinking about taking airplane flying lessons as well! Winter, cold, unable to jump for months yet, unable to travel to warmer climes...But flying lessons at my local airport would get me into the sky sooner in the cold months (and maybe even more often?)... AFTER LEARNING TO FLY and then licensing, what more training is necessary to fly jump planes????
PhreeZone 20 #2 February 5, 2003 High proformance endourcement, Commercial licence, then multi rating and multi commercial if you want to fly anything over a 182, commercial and HP for 182/206. You might need tail dragger endourcement too based on what plane the DZ has. I've seen a few DZ's that require hours too. One required 500 hours, another that had a large number of pilots in the area that needed hours to get looked at for regional traffic asked for 1000 hour pilots. Plus mentoring and working with the DZO/ lead flight ops at the DZ to learn that DZ's policy on things and procedures.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
somethinelse 0 #3 February 5, 2003 Wow... Thanks for your in-put. Interesting... First to get my Class A, anyways. But I am checking into flying lessons here, now. ONLY $49.00 for the Intro. lesson. When I DO have my licences, AND find a Home DZ, I'll talk to the Safety and DZO there to think /talk about future potetntil opp.s! HEY, I LIKE TO DREAM BIG! CanuckInUSA 0 #4 February 5, 2003 Flying is an incredible gift and a privilage. But it's not cheap. When you factor in training material, equipment, airplane rental and instructors time it will tally into the thousands and thousands of dollars. Even more if you are going to pursue a career in aviation. It is also a lot harder to become a licensed pilot than it is to become a skydiver. I don't want to discourage you or anything (because flying is awesome), but you need to know what you're getting into. Steve Private Pilot, SEL + mountain and high performance checkouts. somethinelse 0 #5 February 5, 2003 Yes, It's expensive in the long run. Lots of things are. I'm looking at taking my time. But it would be awesome to get up there and DO learn how to do this. Some good things are worth taking your time and committing to learn to do even if it take a while to get there. Don't ya think so? Personally my outlook on life's experiences is this "The JOY is in the journey not just the final distination."
CanuckInUSA 0 #6 February 5, 2003 If you really want to be a pilot and are dedicated, then yes it is worth the effort and the sacrifice. But you don't want to take too much time. Just as in skydiving, it's extremely important to stay current when flying (especially when you are learning to land). I only fly about once every three to six weeks and usually those flights are nothing but repetitive touch and go landing practice. I'd love to fly more than this, but skydiving has my attention and flying is rough on my bank account. But good luck if you do start flying and there are several pilots besides myself who hang out here who I'm sure would be happy to answer some of your questions who you're CFI isn't handy. somethinelse 0 #7 February 5, 2003 Thanks Canuck! You're too far away. But I do appreciate the helpful info and others take on the subject though. I'm just in the initial PLANNING stages. I think that it won't be out of reach for me financially to fly a couple of times a month. And there is a local flight club that shares in the expenses of a plane so people can get their hours in. The costs for instruction here are not too high either. Have you been able to get in jumps this winter? AND how long have you been flying??
