Zinger 0 #4 February 2, 2003 You don't understand, I don't want to sell everything and move from my loved homeland, I just want to shoot the pig..But seriously, I do love the change of season here in Pennsylvania, We have the best of both worlds, Our summers are hot enough to bitch about but not really unbearable. Just as our winters, There is alot of water and hills here so we can swim in our rivers/lakes and ponds in the summer but ice skate, snow mobile and of course snow ski in the winter and water ski in the summer. People here also skydive year round, I am not one of those people anymore but some still do. My favorites are spring and fall but I can enjoy them all. But on the other hand this winter has been abnormally bad, to the point that the cold killed some of my animals and therefore I do look forward to spring. ------Have a good one!--------

jessd 0 #7 February 2, 2003 Have you ever gone out to watch the big groundhog extravaganza? I have seen it on TV a few times. I think it's hilarious. Zinger 0 #9 February 2, 2003 I hate to admit it but No I never seen it in real life, Have a BUNCH of friends that have, It's one big party, Today there was over 30,000 people there, approximately 75% are drunk college kids with the rest mostly being tourists. They make a big to-do about it, The men wearing formal tuxedo's, To bad the ceremonies only last about 20 minutes then everyone is bused back to the town for more drinking. I'm not much of a drinker anymore specially before dawn. But I might drive up one of these years just to say I have. It's only about a 2 hour drive from my house. ------Have a good one!--------

Zinger 0 #11 February 2, 2003 I think ground hog meat is a darker meat, When I was a younger I use to hunt/shoot them. Most people don't want them around because of their digging leg breaking holes in livestock fields and appetite for garden vetagables. But now-a-day's I fence my gardens and just watch the dogs chase them out of my pasture fields., Never have or plan on cooking/eating one but know people who have, I'll ask about the color meat next time. But I think rodent meat tends to be darker. ------Have a good one!--------

Dumpster 0 #13 February 3, 2003 I've had my share of woodchuck- We used to shoot them at long range for the reasons you mentioned - They dig holes, which break legs on your cattle or horses, and can break axles on tractors, too. 500+ yard shots weren't uncommon. (We'd have made pretty good snipers, come to think of it!) Meat is kinda dark, and strong flavored, with a bit of a tang to it, depending on what they had been eating. The older ones taste like shit - we just threw 'em to the dogs. The younger ones were more tender and less gamey. Stew was the way to go.
