Getting contacts today

Recommended Posts

It will take a little while to adjust to them. I have been wearing contacts for 7 years now. It makes a big difference where you get them and who makes them. If you go to a good eye doctor they will fit better and irritate less. I hate wearing my glasses compared to my contacts. So over all I like them a lot. One day .... when I know for sure, I'll let them shoot laser beams into my eyes...

Oh and tighten your goggles up good. That way if they pop out they stay inside your goggles...

If you ever lose a contact jumping, take off your goggles carefully and look at them. It is very likely stuck to the inside of the goggles.

Yup. I've had that happen about 5 times. I wear either glasses or regular contacts most times. But when I jump, I wear disposable contacts, so it is less problem if I lose one, although I never have.

Just takes a little getting used to. After that it's no big deal. I would recomend dispoables. Then it's no big deal if you loose one. I've even svum with my contacts without loosing them. I've opened my eyes under water without loosing them.
The only way I've managed to loose one is swimming under water with my eyes open.

If you fall asleep with them they will become dry, and difficult to get out. The best then is to wait an hour before you take them out, so they soften up a bit. Another method of getting dry lenses out is to stick your head under water. Open your eyes and shake your head violently. :)

Good note. If you ever lose a contact jumping, take off your goggles carefully and look at them. It is very likely stuck to the inside of the goggles.

Just don't do that when it's windy! Wait till you get back to the packing area before removing them...trust me.

Contacts aren't bad, Jess. After awhile, you can't even tell you have them on, unless they're dirty.

It took me about 2 weeks to get used to the. After having them for 10 years it feels weird to me to wear my glasses. I would like ot get the Lasik surgery - too much money for now. One of my my contacts did fall out of my eye on my second tandem. It was stuck on the goggles but It was all dried up and ruined.:)

6 years here. I recently switched to one-month disposables, and they feel much better than my old ones. The only problems worth mentioning are my eyes drying out a bit faster (nothing eyedrops couldn't fix), especially if I drink too much or hang around in places full of cigarette smoke (or maybe it's just one of those things, since they usually coincide) and the lenses popping out if I ski or fall too fast without tight goggles (you might want to get new goggles that have as few air vents as possible and are padded with foam all around). And when you get used to it, touching your eyeballs is great for freaking out friends
:P.

OK, I just got back from my appointment. Having something on my eyeball is super weird. It took me an hour of near-hysterics to figure out how to take it on and off.

However, it's very cool to be seeing this well with no glasses. B|

Yay for you. One important piece of advice. If for some reason you fall asleep with them in, do NOT take them out right after you wake up. You need to put in eye drops and let them rehydrate. Otherwise it will feel like you're pulling off your whole damn cornea.

I've done that a few times after a long night of drinking. That hurts when you take them off even when you put some drops in. It once left the fine red circles on my eye.

They gave the kind you only have to take out once a month! Woo woo!

Next week I'm going to have purple eyes!

Thats cool. I have the 2wk disposable ones. When it's time for my next eye appt., i'm gonna see about getting green ones. Problem is most colored contacts only go to a -6 prescription. So if i'm lucky enough to find a brand that makes my scrip, they'll prolly be super expensive.

Sometime my eye doctor or different contact makers run specials where you can get the colored ones pretty cheap. I usually ask when I go.
