jerry81 10 #26 January 24, 2003 Same thing happens to me from time to time- someone would come and ask if I wear contacts. Then I'd say "Yes..", and they'd go: "I knew it! Your eyes are just too unnaturally blue." And then I add "...but they're not colored." Gets 'em every time.

Scoby 0 #35 January 24, 2003 I should get one green and one purple contact to match my gear... I really like contacts. I'm one of the very blind (-6.0, -7.5), and glasses for me means two very thick lenses in front of my face. Contacts also allow me to have peripheral vision and they make the objects in my vision a good deal larger. I'd get lasik, but results aren't as predictable for correcting above 7 diopters. I'll be wearing these things until they perfect intraocular lenses. I live in fear of losing my lenses in freefall, though...there is no way I could land well. Do you have any worries about losing a lens in freefall? I mean, I can barely walk across a room without mine in. I've had my motorcycle visor open a bit at 120+ mph, so I'm not that concerned, but I think about it occasionally. I don't think lasik is a really good option for folks like us.
 jerry81 10 #38 January 24, 2003 QuoteI live in fear of losing my lenses in freefall, though...there is no way I could land well. Well, it's happened to me before, but it wasn't that bad, and I'm almost as blind as you are (-6 and -5.25). It certainly isn't fun- it screws up your dive and you spend the ride down thinking how you're going to land, but you should remember that it's quite impossible for both of your contacts to pop out at the same time, so you should have one good eye left. This might not be good enough for accuracy or swooping, but if you come in slow and concentrate you should be able to land standing up without a problem.
