Cronus4 0 #1 September 29, 2012 I'm looking at purchasing a 1996 PD Reserve with DOM of Jan 96. It's been repacked 15 times and has had 2 rides. For the past 10 or so years its been in a pelican case in a climate controlled environment. My question is, will a rigger have issues packing this reserve if it's still airworthy? I know it sounds kind of straight forward but I have been getting mixed answers so I decided to put it out to the professionals on this forum. Thanks. councilman24 37 #2 September 29, 2012 Each case is different. No one can tell you they will pack it until they inspect it. PD requires that after 40 pack jobs or 25 rides it needs to go back to PD for evaluation. So there is nothing that prevents it from being packed with the information you have. Until an individual rigger inspects it and deems it airworthy you won't know for sure. You should have all equipment you considering buying inspected before purchase.I'm old for my age. SEREJumper 1 #3 October 1, 2012 PD also says fabric testing should be done annually, but most senior riggers that are probably in your local area do not have the equipment available to do that. A lot of bigger lofts do have this equipment though. If in doubt, send it to PD for an inspection, only $25 + return shipping usually $20-30, and they will make sure it is good to go. http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/Reserve_manual.pdf Pg.25 FABRIC TESTING STRENGTH Fabric testing should be done annually (at the appropriate repack cycle), however it is not necessary to test the fabric before the first pack job if the parachute is within one year of the date of manufacture. When the fabric is tested, note this on the packing data card. Use commercially available 1 inch (2.54 cm) wide fabric testing clamps with rubber faced jaws and appropriate scale.
