misskriss 0 #26 January 29, 2003 I worked out at the gym on base for awhile but got tired of the leering... I finally joined a gym for women....however..the equipment wasn't nearly as good....and I guess I do prefer the scenery at the base gym as opposed to the women only. So......i'm back there......and it's free.
jessd 0 #27 January 29, 2003 I used to go to an all women's gym too. The machines were horrible and it was a real small place. I just go to the local YMCA. They just remodeled it a few years ago so it's real nice. I really go there looking like a complete slob so I don't find leering to be a problem. misskriss 0 #29 January 29, 2003 i never wear makeup to the gym.......ever.....in fact...I hardly ever wear it unless I"m going out with the girlies or the man in my life.. hair back in a ponytail.. jog bra and running shorts. The thing about the gym on base is it is predominantly men...I think they leer because they outnumber the women ...I just keep my headphones on and turned up.. that seems to deter unwanted conversation.. jessd 0 #30 January 29, 2003 Headphones are definite plus at the gym. I always get the person who wants to talk to me at 6:30 am while I'm trying to jog. Jogging is enough for me - I really can't talk at the same time. I would lose my breath to easily. misskriss 0 #31 January 29, 2003 http://www.armynavyshop.com/05-audio-video-army-navy.html I think I've posted this link before, but it's GREAT to run to.... I have the Army Airborne, marine recon and Navy SEAL....can always kick out an extra mile or two listening to these..
jessd 0 #32 January 29, 2003 Which one is better? Hell - if they will work I'll try them. I get so bored with running. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..."
misskriss 0 #33 January 29, 2003 they are all great........however......The Army Airborne one has references.......to ummmmm.......skydiving.......heehee...... you will LOVE it. You feel like you are running right along with them and you won't want to stop.
jessd 0 #34 January 29, 2003 I'll have to order one this week. I'll try anything. Right now if I run for like 15-20 minutes I'm happy. My brother and I go to the gym on Saturday's together and I find it easier to run then - because he struggles as much as me. Makes it a little easier not to give up. Thanks for the link. jessd 0 #36 January 29, 2003 Quotehey, what's wrong with a little learing, anyway?? I guess there is nothing really wrong with it. It just makes you a little uncomfortable when trying to workout. At least for me anyway. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..."
Scoby 0 #37 January 29, 2003 I can't stand there being anyone around when I work out. It's kind of weird I know, but I guess I can understand how the girl's feel. When I lived in an apartment with a weight room, I used to work out late at night so I'd have the place to myself. When I moved, I got a power rack so I can now train to failure in relative safely by myself.
MrHixxx 0 #38 January 29, 2003 That was me (Jon) with Jen talkin with Quade and Ltdiver. I just got home today. Yes, my rig was !@#$up, but it is better now. I am bummin I didn't have it for the trip. I only got a couple jumps in at Elsinore with a friends rig there as I wasn't about to rent one... -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
IronMike 0 #39 January 29, 2003 QuoteSo were you going to the gym to actually work out? Or just to look at girls' asses? Work out...You haven't seen me lately, have you? Besides, the scenery in San Bernardino aint much to look at. QuoteAnd which gym did you decide to join? (so I'll know which one to avoid) Ballys...but Im moving down to your neck of the woods soon and I think I will join that one where Rich goes to rehab. There were some serious hotties there. AggieDave 6 #41 January 29, 2003 Ahhhh...just got back from the gym. I was lifting so hard that I almost hurled. Something about deadlifting 400lbs for a few reps, then doing 350lbs shrugs for a full set of reps really gets your blood moving. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Holy crap...Remind me not to piss you off....I rode the bike and kept my heart rate at 170 for 59 minutes. I can barely walk right now. I then did about 100 crunches and 100 situps. I am needing to shift from the weight loss mode to the muscle building mode. I have dropped from 195 to 165 since Dec 20th. I am going to get a personal trainer. AggieDave 6 #44 January 29, 2003 QuoteI have dropped from 195 to 165 since Dec 20th Congrats! That is awsome! Right now I'm just trying to get my body back to where it was a year ago, I didn't really lift much last year and definately didn't lift much in the past 6 months, so my body went to total shit. Just another inch on my arms, then its time to drop my bodyfat % back to where it was. Personal Trainers are great, do outside research as to what he/she's telling you though, since sometimes they (as well as many other people) get caught up in the fads that come and go. A few good places to start would be the Weider BodyBuilding encyclopedia and the Muscle Media magazine. Both have a wealth of info. MM magazine spends a lot of time debunking the fads and writing about healthy ways to be fit and build muscle. Joe Weider's book has a wealth of info when it comes to how to lift properly and outlines the Weider Principles, which are great things to use to design your workouts. Good Luck!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

jaaska 0 #46 January 29, 2003 Just couple of other observations that I've made when ever I've visited a gym (no, I do not do that too often): Ladies (and some men too) using exercise cycle and reading while doing it... Then some people actually have nerves to say: "Oh, I exercise (?) 5 times a week - I cycle an hour and half but for a reason or another, there's no progress... I'm still a fat ass!" A good friend of mine was a co-owner of a gym and he put it quite nicely: a) If you feel "good" while working out, you're doing something wrong - probably not working at all. b) No matter how hard you train your muscles, if there's no good aerobic workout as well (yes, you do need to sweat and feel "not so good"

happythoughts 0 #50 January 29, 2003 Quote Do you just go to look or do you watch while working out? Isn't that same thing? The purpose of aerobics classes is to get your heartrate and breathing elevated, right? I do stationary aerobics. I find a weight machine, do some light sets, and watch the girls in their skimpy outfits doing the aerobics class. It elevates my heartrate and gets my breathing up, plus it's not as hard on my knees as running. Another free health tip...
