Tonto 1 #30 January 23, 2003 Last one from 4500... Our DZ is 5500ft ASL and its over 100 deg in Summer (Now) The student begins to downsize on their solo's, and we've found a bit more canopy time helps out. We're as capable of moving the students arms or legs on AFF as your I is on Tandem - but I have no doubt your canopy skills are way higher. Tandem is a good way to learn this, but with a poor exchange rate, a Tandem rig costs more than most houses or cars do... and so jumps on them are expensive. AFF gear is locally made by PISA - the same company that makes the Tempo reserve. Whatever happens, enjoy yourself and do your best. Don't try too hard. Skydiving really just happens when your calm.t It's the year of the Pig.

A S/L-jumper is a parachutist, yes, but not a skydiver before the first freefall. >She siad she wanted to fly on her own, and static Line is by far >the cheapest and fastest way to achieve that! With that I do agree. Although the 19 S/L's I did took me 9 months(with the Finnish winter in between). Vallerina 2 #46 January 23, 2003 Okay, I'm really not some psychology freak who believes in all the weird and mysterious powers of the mind, but I will state my experiences. I think I failed two or three jumps through the static line program....those failed jumps happened when I put the most amount of pressure on myself to "not mess up." Even though static line is cheap, I was still a poor college student with maxed out credit cards. I didn't want to spend that extra $35 if I didn't have to. Plus, I wanted to hurry up and get off static line to participate in all the cool events my dz had (scrambles, buy 2 jumps get 1 free, etc etc). My "graduation jump" was (obviously) one of my best jumps as a student. My dz was having a boogie that I got to participate in since I was finally jumping from turbines, my parents were going to come watch me and pay for my jumps, so I had no reason to worry about failing. So, I put my concentration on learning, being safe and having fun. When I forgot about the fact I could fail is when I performed the best. Have Freud analyze that one! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Actually it is my written expression that's failing me... That's what I was trying to say, that it's not a skydive. It's a "parachute jump" in my book. That's not to say that it's not fucking cool and that the person doing it has notably larger prodigal balls than any tandem-passenger. Quote If you think it's the freefall, and not the self control that makes a skydiver, should we call all those one tandem wonders "skydivers"? FUCK NO! FUCK NO! Perhaps the combination of the two that defines a skydiver? Quote S/L students take their own lives in their hands. 1 S/L jump does not a skydiver make, but a few sure as hell does. One who performs a skydive is not necessarily a skydiver? Ah, the good'ol debate on the definition of a skydiver... You know, we could continue this all night.
