christopherm 0 #4 January 26, 2003 It says to NOT report any amount in the Other Income box from 1099-MISC box 7, non-employment compensation. Is there a way around this?-So, how hard is the ground?!
CrazyIvan 0 #5 January 26, 2003 Well, the beauty of a 1099 is that you can WRITE-OFF a lot of things, trust me, I suggest you talk to an accountant about that.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
christopherm 0 #6 January 26, 2003 If 99% of my income was from packing but I made one coach jump and did like three videos at the end of the year, can I itemize things like my original training, gear, etc.? Also do I have to have records for mileage to deduct them?-So, how hard is the ground?!
gemini 0 #7 January 26, 2003 If it was reported on the 1099, you have to report it on your return or the IRS will send you a bill for the tax on the amount. If the 1099-MISC was used and the amount was reported as non-employee compensation, it is subject to employment taxes as well. As PDS mentioned however, why not become a professional skydiver? This would allow you to deduct your skydiving expenses. It would help if you are on a team, or an instructor. If you were a manifest, loading, or packer contractor it will be a little more difficult to support, but it can be done. Just remember to show a profit every 2 out of 5 years and your should be home free. Blue skies, Jim
