indyz 1 #2 January 22, 2003 I am not familiar with the program, but if it prevents new browser windows from opening, that would stop you from viewing attachments.
mattb 0 #3 January 22, 2003 I run a similar program on my PC - "Pop Up Stopper" and highly recommend it. It blocks pop up windows both good and bad - ads, attachments, etc. To view a pop up window I simply hold down control or shift - perhaps there is a similar setting in your program? Mine runs in the taskbar - you might want to look for a new icon in the lower right corner of your screen. (assuming you are on Windows) Matt

Gawain 0 #5 January 22, 2003 I'm not familiar with that program, but I am familiar with AdSubtract. Not only does it block pop-ups, but it also lets you customize the filters, it can also block cookies, referrers, background music or images, pop-ups and java. It's not expensive, and very easy to use. www.adsubtract.comSo I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! BadDog 0 #6 January 22, 2003 Another (better) option is to get Opera (a browser that lets you turn the pop-ups on or off, or open them in the background, on the fly). It's also more secure than IE and I like it better than Mozilla or Netscape (which are other alternatives to IE). Of course, you might not be allowed to load it on your computer at work. ernokaikkonen 0 #7 January 22, 2003 Yeah, what he said! Opera Rocks.
sharpfive 0 #8 January 22, 2003 What is it about Opera that makes it better than Mozilla? I'm just wondering, beacause I use Mozilla so I can block pop-ups.
BadDog 0 #9 January 22, 2003 I'm not sure there is a great deal of difference in terms of configuration options, but I prefer the way Opera displays the open windows on the bottom of the panel, which makes it easy to switch between windows when you have multiple windows open. Both browsers are certainly respectable.
sharpfive 0 #10 January 22, 2003 I'll check it out. Is it opera.com?

ernokaikkonen 0 #12 January 22, 2003 >I'm not sure there is a great deal of difference in terms of configuration options Well I'm pretty sure there is. I have only limited experience with Mozilla1/Netscape7, but I doubt they're anywhere as configurable. There's a good (but long) article on the nice things in Opera6 here: http://www.tntluoma.com/opera/lover/6/ What I find very much superior in Opera is the amount of keyboard shortcuts. Almost every key is used for something. And I think in Opera7 the shortcuts will be user-configurable too!
SkydiveMonkey 0 #13 January 22, 2003 Version 7 has the great option of "Display only requested pop-ups" ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
ernokaikkonen 0 #14 January 22, 2003 A few examples of the unique Opera-features I use: -The "Back"-button. Shortcut is "ctrl+cursor_left". Especially handy since I use a mouse-trap. -Zoom. Shortcuts are "9" for zoom-out, "0" for zoom-in and "6" for normal view. Very useful at sites with ridiculously small text for example. -User configurable search options. Want to find out wtf a platypus is? F2 to open the box for entering an url, type in "c platypus", I get the Cambridge online dictionary page defining that word. Want to find software? I type in "b searchword" and I'll get a search results page from my favorite download site containing the word 'searchword'. The search engines that Opera uses are freely configurable. -Easy way of toggling whether or not images are shown on the web-page. Very useful over my GPRS-connection on heavily graphic sites. Simply press "G" to toggle "show images"/"no images"/"only cached images". I'm sure there are more, but they're so second nature now that I can't remember any...
