Jimbo 0 #26 January 17, 2003 Quote And brewer's yeast is a healthfood, rich in B vitamins& even has some protein. That's why you can get drunk on homebrew & not be hungover the next day. Be careful with that yeast. Too much of it can mess with your digestive system and make for some pretty nasty poop in the morning. Anyhow, the idea is to just be careful with the poor and leave the gunk in the bottom of the bottle in the bottom of the bottle. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Actually I think only a few people have a problem with it. I never have, and most people I know don't seem to have any probs. When the Germans drink their Hefeweizen they will deliberately swirl up the last of the yeast and pour it into the glass. Danl 0 #28 January 17, 2003 I make 3 or 4 batches a year. Dark in the summer, opaque for the winter. The most fun is making up the names. These days, I'm sampling "Triple-Double" Half-Asphalt Stout. Yum! Blue skies and home brews, Dan'l
SpeedRacer 1 #29 January 19, 2003 I like to have a variety of beers at all times, so you can choose which one you want depending on your mood, food, etc. I try to have a dark beer (stout or porter), a medium beer (brown ale, IPA etc.) and a light beer (kolsch, steam beer, blonde ale) at all times. Life is good at my house! So I have a porter that will be ready to drink in a week or so. And today I am brewing a Kolsch! I'm using a little bit of wheat extract along with light extract, and about 1/2 lb Munich malt and some Mt Hood hops. YUM! (the blonde ale is almost gone so I need to make another light-ish beer to replace it.) gotta run out & buy some spring water for it now. kallend 2,026 #30 January 20, 2003 What about winemaking? I've made a lot of wine over the years, but not beer.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
Jimbo 0 #31 January 20, 2003 I've got a few friends who are doing their own wine and I'm also thinking of getting into it. I'll probably start with a good mead, does that count? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
Guest #32 January 20, 2003 I've always wanted to take a shot at it, but I just don't have the patience. And I agree with you - if you like cheap-assed piss like Buttwiper, MGD, etc., brewing isn't worth your while, for you lack taste for decent brew in the first place.. A skydiving bud of mine at Lodi makes a pretty good homebrew. He's over on the wreck from time to time...might have some tips for ya. His name is Todd Owen. Ever heard the song "The Hills of Connemara"? It's about making bootleg whiskey, but it's still in the spirit of "rolling your own"...
