GrumpySmurf 0 #1 January 17, 2003 After a rather long wait, my 'baby' showed up today - mounted in a shirasaya (storage scabbard) with a rudimentary polish. Sadly my digicam doesn't have the zoom needed to display the temper line (hamon) nor the grain pattern of the folded steel (hada). On the downside, some of the fittings that were supposed to on thier way from Japan were sent to the wrong country (???) and sadly, the craftsman who made them, passed away earlier this month. GrumpySmurf 0 #5 January 17, 2003 Then I'd go from being involved and owning a long razor blade, to simply owning a long razor blade This beauty is destined for tameshigiri (thus why no bo-hi 'groove' along the blade) - unfortunately they don't allow the testing of the blades on the bodies of executed criminals anymore

JJohnson 0 #9 January 17, 2003 If made in Japan and shipped here is it sharpened? I thought they were not allowed to make one sharp. What is the cost on this bad boy? Name it yet? I have a WW2 officers blade, mass produced unfortunately....not a family blade. Still a nice peice of history. JJJJ "Call me Darth Balls"
JackC 0 #10 January 18, 2003 I must admit, I'm a bit of a Nihonto nut. I'm jealous as hell. Who made it? But I have to ask, if you were looking to buy a tameshigiri sword why didn't you look into a Howard Clark Bainite? The Japanese make some outstanding swords that few can even come close to reproducing (I know, I've tried) but they are seriously limited in the materials they can use.
