Because the people at the DZ said I wasn't a real skydiver unless I drank beer, I tried to tell them I'm a recovering alcoholic, but they just bitch-slapped me and told me to drink up or I couldn't have my rig back.:S

Mostly for the taste, however the beers I like to drink typically have a higher alcohol content than most. For a beer to have a lot of flavor it typically is made with quite a bit of grains, more grains generally means more alcohol content. Most of my favorite beers have a minimum ABV of 6.5%, they go as high as 23%.

a brewmiester i know once told me that once you get over 12% (not sure why that number vs 11 or 15 though) it really didnt qualify as beer...

as to the topic...mostly for taste, if i'm going to get hammered there are quicker routes..

Ask him what he would call a drink made with malted grains, hops, water, and yeast that's over 12%. I'd love to know.

I've thought about this often.....I can't prove it scientifically, but the threads seem funnier when I'm drinking heavily.

Don

OH no... it has been proven. All of us guinea pigs have scientifically tested all of this many times. Time and time again, laughter is heard much more frequently after several intoxicating beverages. The trouble with the experiement is the sheer lack of documentation. Perhaps some clerical genius can begin the documentation whilst drinking being funny and posting. That's some serious multi-tasking for most willing scientific quinea pigs.

Two reasons I drink beer:

1) I like the tast of a good beer, and

2) Single malt whiskey (or whisky depending on the Celt of your choice) is too damned expensive to drink in mass quantities.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Beer? For the taste! People actually get drunk on beer? Well, not up here! B| If we wanna get drunk, we gotta haul out the Jack Daniels, Everclear, and Bacardi 151. We are not cheap dates!

I like beer mostly for the taste, and the buzz is of secondary importance. Good tasting beer is important to me. (and yeah, I don't usually get really drunk from beer.) I also brew beer, & my homebrewer club meets once a month & we all taste each others' beers.B|

well I think most people would still put it under the big umbrella of "beer" but specifically, if it was that high in alcohol it could be a barleywine. (although some doppelbocks or imperial stouts can get pretty high in alcohol too)
