Where should I look?

So does San Diego - I'm about 90 minutes from some pretty good skiing. Plus we have the desert, which is cool.

I loved San Diego until you told me the prices of houses. You about made my eyeballs pop out of my head, Bill! :S

how often do earthquakes hit?

As often as they want to. ;)

To give you an idea, I've lived in California all my life (37 years) and have slept through most of the earthquakes that have happened. Lately my dogs have been waking me up in time to enjoy the shaking. Yes, I did say enjoy; they are usually pretty mellow and can be kinda fun.

Don't live on or very near a fault line and you should be just fine. :)

Well, honey, I'd need to at least test drive your hugs and kisses before I could answer that question. ;)

Sure thing..c'mon on down and lose yourself! B|
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright

Make light!

SoCal rocks!

Cool people, great weather, wonderful cultural events...

OK, people and weather for sure. And, if there is a day when the weather is too bad to jump, you can hop on dz.com and bitch about it like it's never happened anywhere else before! :P

The housing costs are nuts, but you can find something you can afford. Plus, the resale values are awesome! Your cheap little home will be someone's castle in a few years...

If that's not for you, Rhode Island is the place to be. Real seasons, great people, small towns, and awesome beaches. They are surfing in Narragansett right now....

Not me! I've lived through several earthquakes, a tornado, two hurricanes, numerous blizzards, floods, and windstorms, and a fire. The earthquakes were by far the most unpredictable and I had no control at all over the situtation.

If I never experience another one it will be too soon...

Arizona... year round jumping, and lots of cool places within driving distances, and even shorter flights to other cool places.

Hey,, why isnt Kansas on your list? It's only about 3 hours flight from anywhere you would want to go!!! lol,, its not much to look at but its home. The people are nice and there are still quite a few job opportunities here. What kind of work do you do Lady? or since your moving and changing everything in your life what kind of work would you like to be doing?

LOL - I didn't put a lot of states on the list. As I put in an earlier post, I was just too lazy this morning to type out all the states and put them in any order. I just started typing the ones that were popping into my head and when I got to "Other" decided I'd had enough of typing the states names. :D

As for career...I currently am a web specialist but am looking to move out of programming and into a business analyst position. Unless, of course, I came up with a few hundred thousand laying around and opened up a Starbucks franchise with a tanning salon attached. :D

Question for all you Californian's...how often do earthquakes hit?

LOL!!! :D:ph34r:

That's Phunny. The things people are scared of :)

I'm with Lisa on this one...

Not often and almost never big enough to matter. I live near the San Andreas fault So this is the place where it would happen.

What are the dangers in Wisconsin? I don't know what the weather is like there.

Well....the whole idea of the earth opening up beneath you when you're not expecting it can be scary. LOL

Wisconsin dangers are snow and cold during the winter. Other than that, it's pretty tame. Today's weather when I got up was 22F with winds of 20-30 mph which made the temp feel like 2F.

No, I haven't. I've tried various beers including one that was described as "coffee and chocolate" flavored thinking the 2 best flavors in the world. UGH! I've given up on finding a beer I like and have stuck with wine coolers, Kahlua combos, etc.

Now heres a idea,, how about doing the two things you like the most and making a living at it? no not that,;), skydiving and web design. Start your own busn. updating/designing web pages for DZ's all over the world. travel, adventure, site seeing, culture, sunny beaches, rain forests, deserts, mountains and the plains of Kansas what more could you ask for? I'm sure they would love to have one of there own kind doing there web designs. remember navigation is the key.

For me, it's up to a number of criteria, and finding the best balance between them. I have been in the Sandhills of North Carolina for 18 years - longer than I have lived anywhere else. I have lived in this house for 7 years, longer than any other as well.

Admittedly it was the job that brought me here, and partially the job that keeps me here. The town I live in I could stay in for many more years and be happy.

I have a transition point coming up for myself as well, not sure exactly when yet, but within the next 3 years for sure. I will likely go where the second career opportunities lie, but I will be careful to preserve the other important things in life in their respective places on my priority list.

This all sounds very general; I'm keeping it that way so I don't write an epic. If you'd like to talk about this more over the phone, let me know and I'll PM you my number. If it's this area you choose, I'll help you however I can.

where you can skydive all year round

Chuck is right. As long as you're not a truly "fair weather" person, and are willing to put on the layers and be a little cold, you can do about anything year round here. We get snow sometimes, but it doesn't stay long. If you want more Winter, you just go West to the mountains.

CA = way high cost of living (housing), way high taxes, way high cost to register a vehicle, way high gas prices..... but there is some nice scenery and weather. I would not go back to Florida voluntarily, way to transient a state. I really was impressed with the Charlotte/huntersville area of North carolina.

Florida's ok if you like to be hot and sweaty most of the year. If I had the choice, I'd move to North Carolina.

Parts of North Carolina can get really hot in the Summer too, although not as overwhelming as Florida. My parents live in the mountains of Western North Carolina where the temperature and humidity in the Summer is really pleasant. No skydiving nearby though! The closest DZ to them in in Seneca, SC.

Nope! Not afraid of cold. I have jumped in -18F at altitude. Gear bag has long underwear and a turtleneck plus neoprene gloves and liners for them for the nice cold days. :D

My vote was "Other" because you left Colorado off of the list. Believe it or not, if you like sunshine, then Colorado is one of the the better places to be (not forgetting that the rocky mountains are next door and they are a wonderful playground). Also, while it may not be the best place to skydive, it's pretty darn good. We may not jump 52 weeks in a year, but we do jump all 12 months of the year. And if you can handle the challenges of jumping here, then you can jump anywhere.
