cgross 1 #1 January 10, 2003 Ok, I just want to know where people stand, see how informed some people are. Do you support the ACLU, or do you not support them. You must give reasons. Chris

Gawain 0 #11 January 10, 2003 I support their founding mission to protect the Bill of Rights. I am mixed about their other missions, especially the gratuitous lawsuits filed about memorials, war memorials and the like. I appreciate what they want to do about perceived religious symbols, but I'm a big boy and can accept what these symbols truly convey as a memorial. They whine a lot.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! wmw999 2,461 #15 January 10, 2003 I believe in the ACLU. I also don't think they're perfect, nor does believing in them mean that I agree with everything they do by a long shot. But they stand for the little guy; the one who bucks the majority, a lot of the time. Yes, it's unpopular, but "separation of church and state" and "freedom of speech" and the like only have meaning if they're enforced when you DON'T agree with them, as well as when you do. WendyThere is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Remember, if they get case law laid down that says Nazis have the right express their views, then every other less extreme view is more strongly protected. Now, more than ever, we need people like them fighting for our diminishing freedoms. Otherwise, we all sit on out comfy couches and wake up one day with cheese doodles on our face wondering where it all went.
