ACLU

Recommended Posts

I support their founding mission to protect the Bill of Rights. I am mixed about their other missions, especially the gratuitous lawsuits filed about memorials, war memorials and the like. I appreciate what they want to do about perceived religious symbols, but I'm a big boy and can accept what these symbols truly convey as a memorial. They whine a lot.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I believe in the ACLU. I also don't think they're perfect, nor does believing in them mean that I agree with everything they do by a long shot.

But they stand for the little guy; the one who bucks the majority, a lot of the time. Yes, it's unpopular, but "separation of church and state" and "freedom of speech" and the like only have meaning if they're enforced when you DON'T agree with them, as well as when you do.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

>>>>>ACLU is today......well:|,
It's a lot Like the IDEA of "COMMUNism" vs. the Totalitarianisms that exhist due to those in power of it.
It did start with the right IDEA and then tarnised like a good man that becomes a Lawyer and ends up defending a guilty rapists because he is "SUPPOSED TO FULLFILL HE OBLIGATION TO HIS JOB".
(ie. Movie="Devil's Advocate",he meant well at the start then...)[:/]

Nah, I mean what is it?

American Civil Liberties Union

I thought it was American Cry-babies and Losers Union.

I was once told it was the American Communist Lawyers Union:D

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

I believe in working for a living, driving a large American truck, shooting any firearm I want, whenever I want, eating ridiculous amounts of meat, drinking beer, and causing extreme distress to anyone who tries to take away my toys.

I guess I'm a REDNECK, so be it. . . . . . . . .

So that's a yes?

I think the ACLU has done more for American freedoms than any other group ever. Remember, if they get case law laid down that says Nazis have the right express their views, then every other less extreme view is more strongly protected.

Now, more than ever, we need people like them fighting for our diminishing freedoms. Otherwise, we all sit on out comfy couches and wake up one day with cheese doodles on our face wondering where it all went.

I think the "shooting any firearm I want, whenever I want" makes it a definitive NO.
