Beerlight 0 #1 January 6, 2003 OK, another ski destination question? If my Colorado trip falls thru, have to have back-up plan. Bud told me there's good skiing in NC..... Any info be appreciated..........!
PhillyKev 0 #2 January 6, 2003 Are you serious? Considering it's closer to Florida than Pennsylvania...I can't imagine that would be true.
katiebear21 0 #3 January 6, 2003 Actually I hear it's Ok in the Western part of the state. I have a friend that went to Appalacian (sp?) State and he goes skiing near there often. Katie Get your PMS glass necklace here
PhillyKev 0 #4 January 6, 2003 They might have ok skiing...but if I were going on a ski vacation, it wouldn't make my list of possible destinations.
Sebazz1 2 #5 January 6, 2003 Just FYI, Lake Tahoe CA has recieved quite a bit of snow recently and well probably a damn good place to go skiing right now. Though I rank Colorado #1 in my book. If you are out in the east coast you should be up in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. Chilly but very decent mountains up there.
misskriss 0 #6 January 6, 2003 http://www.skibeech.com/ My brother goes here quite often and loves it..
PhillyKev 0 #7 January 6, 2003 Quotesnow base depth 18"-28" Yikes...better like muddy patches and rocks. I'm sure it's fine skiing for the south. But like I said, if you're travelling somewhere to ski....go somewhere known for skiing.

Ducky 0 #11 January 8, 2003 QuoteYikes...better like muddy patches and rocks. I'm sure it's fine skiing for the south. But like I said, if you're travelling somewhere to ski....go somewhere known for skiing. Actually in the Vicinity of Boone, NC there is some good skiing. They are gettn quite a bit of snow lately and having their best year in awhile. You will deal with some man-made snow in areas, but tolerable. The West (ie Rockies) are having a rough year of it from whatI hear w/ below normal snowfall, but still better than the East. If ya just really need that ski-fix on a budget NC willbe more than adequate. kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. Question is Hun, Do you wanna get hammered or do you wanna get nailed?????
PhillyKev 0 #12 January 8, 2003 Go to New England. Stowe or Killington in Vermont are very nice. Been to both of them. If you don't want to go that far. The PA Poconos has about a dozen decent resorts. Hunter Mountain or Greek Peak in NY are pretty nice, too.

steve1 5 #14 January 9, 2003 Montana is terribly short on snow so far this year. The worst year in 20 years. I heard some places in Colorado are getting a lot though. Many places are short of snow in the North West. I'd call ahead before going. Steve1
Geronimo509 0 #15 January 9, 2003 I live in Boone, NC 15 minutes from NC's 2 main skiing destinations, Ski Sugar and Ski Beech. Haven't been out there this season but our current weather has consisted of alittle snow every few days with the wind consistantly 25 mph. The days have been warm enough for the snow to melt and then re freeze at night so you're looking at icy conditions. I worked the 99 and 2000 seasons in the lift ops and its mostly man-made snow which equals ice most of the time so if you can try Snow shoe in WV if you're in this area. If you need any more detailed info about this area Email me. Take care Later Gabe
Possum 0 #16 January 9, 2003 I second the Snowshoe idea- probably the best skiing within a reasonable driving distance for you. In fact I'm leaving for Snowshoe at noon today- we have a slopeside condo through Sunday.
