ChromeBoy 0 #1 May 20, 2002 On Sunday Boston Providence had about 25 tandems and they did not arrive until late which means the first load did not get off the ground until between 11am and 12pm. Because of the time factor they took the tandems up to 10,000 feet only and then we went up to 14,000. I was sitting by the door and I was cracking up watching the tandems exit. Watching them go from being excited getting in the plane and then getting really nervous close to exit time to practically throwing up (one did) at exit. We were rolling on the floor laughing. Anyone else have any funny tandem stories?
kmcguffee 0 #2 May 20, 2002 I had a friend of mine do a tandem this weekend. We opened the door, he looked out and said "hooooolyyyyyyyyy SHIT!". It was hilarious (location joke). riggerrob 643 #3 May 20, 2002 All but one of the tandem students who threw up or passed out on me skipped breakfast.Over the years, I have heard so much profanity, in some many different languages, that it has gotten boring. Now I wear ear plugs to protect my delicate sensibilities. The funniest thing is the number of new arms students grow when they get close to the door. Peal their left hand off the door frame. peel their right hand off the pilot's seat, peel their left hand off the wing strut, peel their right hand off the door frame, peel their left hand off your thigh, oh never mind, let's just go!After 2200+ tandem jumps, I have seen almost everything, even tried a side-spin, once! But the only thing that gives me cold sweats was the 100 pound German girl who had a death grip on my left hand at pull time. We were jumping an early Vector Tandem long before Cypri were invented! scottbre 0 #5 May 20, 2002 Geez! I got nervous watching that girl. I'm sort of surprised that the TM was able to talk her into going. She looked like she just about passed out for a second there.Turn off the world before you come to bed.
SkydiveMonkey 0 #6 May 20, 2002 When I was a student (doing RAPS), i was going out first out of a 206 with a tandem in it. The higher we got, the more she was getting worried. We got up to 10k, and opened the door and my instructor checked the spot. I got in the door, and he pushed me out and the woman was like "OH MY GOD - WHAT'S HE DOING ??!!!". I almost cried with laughter on the ground after I was told that !!! There's no tomorrow - you ain't gonna live it for me - The Offspring
Emma 0 #7 May 20, 2002 We had a girl at the weekend who was so scared in the plane that she started getting everyone else on there freaked out too....I've seen them scared and silent before, but she was actually crying..and then, screaming...for about 5 thousand feet.I found it all quite stressful, actually. She was so LOUD! Everyone on there was trying to chill, as you do, and yet this young lady was giving off the impression she was due for the electric chair.....Dunno how the tandem instructors cope with that over and over...She was seriously worse than that bird on your video there...And then she got down and loved it and thanked us for being so sweet! Probably not a contender for AFF though....
Rachill 0 #8 May 20, 2002 We have heard some crazy things come from people after their first tandems......"That was better than shootin' dear" andOne guy was a big golfer and so the TM asked if it was better than golf, the student says "Oh, it was okay..." We were like "WHAT" A lady this weekend said "Now I know why the birds sing all the time!!!" I liked that one!!!Of course you gotta love the screamers when they land and just can't help to scream their head off in excitement!!!Blue Skies!!! chicagoskydiver 0 #10 May 20, 2002 We had a girl (tandem student) freak out last year at Skydive Illinois and it was caught on video...lol! Kris Bagwell was the tandem master. There was a four way group going out in front of her. She was calm until that group exited and then she freaked because she thought they got sucked out! LMAO!! She grabbed the walls and screamed repeatedly "I'm not going! I'm not going! No! I'm not going!" Kris got her calmed down and out they went. Down on the ground she said "I can't believe it did it!" to which the video guy replied "Neither can I!" LMAO!!!!Hackey
FallingILweenie 0 #11 May 20, 2002 The funniest thing i've seen happened at Skydive Illinois. A couple of years ago i was on a load where the TM was going through all the stuff they do on the ride to altitude (checking the altimeter at 5 grand, etc). The student was just fine. Then when we get to the altitude where the tandem gets strapped in, the instructor leans over and tells the guy:"ok, you have 2 choices. 1: we can go together or 2: you can jump out and i will chase after you and i will strap you in when i catch you."the student actually believed him...and to make matters funnier, actually wanted the second choice!blue skiesTomas"Marge, it takes 2 people to lie. ChromeBoy 0 #13 May 20, 2002 I was talking to one of my friend in Florida who is a tandem master one day and one of the tandems there asked him how he did the tandem with video. The tandem master said, "I will disconnect you in freefall and then fly out in front of you to capture the video. Right before deployment altitude of 5,500 feet I will connect us back together." The student looked at him with a blank stare and said, "I don't think I want video." I was rotflmao! Her fist words were, "mom don't ever do it." She even started to cry. We thought she was going to have an anxiety attack. Luckey for us she couldn't convince the next jumper to change his mind.
