What should happen to this SOB?

Prision, Castaraton, Death????? They have video on the website of this guy in action.

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/GoodMorningAmerica/GMA030103SuspectedPredatorArrested.html

— Jerry McClain, a 65-year-old Texas man, drove more than 1,500 miles in a car packed with sex toys to meet a 13-year-old girl he found on the Internet. Instead, he met the undercover police officer he'd been chatting with for weeks.

As he walked toward a Turlock, Calif., Burger King where he had arranged to meet 13-year-old "Christine" on Dec. 18, McClain instead met two police officers, who tackled him. The entire incident was captured on video by ABCNEWS.
Detective Ken Hedrick, a Stanislaus County, Calif., Sheriff's Department officer, had pretended to be Christine while he set up a sting operation to nab McClain. Hedrick said it wasn't long before the senior citizen began e-mailing "Christine" intimate questions.

‘I Told Him I Was 13’

"One of the first things he asked me was how old I was," Hedrick said. "I told him I was 13. He began asking me questions of what type of sexual experiences I have had, if I was interested in older men."

Hedrick is just one of the law enforcement officers in Stanislaus County's high-tech crime unit, a task force on the front lines in the battle to protect children from Internet predators.

Detective Lydell Wall, who works with Hedrick, said their unit has become very necessary since parents are often unaware of what their kids are doing online

"We would no more leave our children at home alone unattended with the doors unlocked, but parents do it everyday by allowing their children to go online unsupervised behind a closed door," Wall said.

Hedrick said online predators like McClain count on parents who don't monitor their children's Internet use. McClain's contact with "Christine" moved from cyberspace to talking on the telephone.

"He [McClain] wanted me to have cybersex," Hedrick said. "After a while, we had some phone conversations."

With the help of a voice transformer, Hedrick was able to make McClain think he was really talking to a 13-year-old girl. One of their conversations went as follows:

Hedrick as "Christine": "Hello."

McClain: "You know what?"

Hedrick: "What?"

McClain: "I love you."

Christine: "I love you, too."

McClain: "You sound real nice, you know that?"

Christine: "Thank you."

McClain: "What are you wearing?"

Christine: "Jeans."

Detailed Sex Acts

Hedrick said McClain described in detail the sex acts they would have once they met. Hedrick also said McClain revealed during a phone conversation that he planned on taking "Christine" back to Texas with him:

McClain: "If you decide you want to come with me that day."

Hedrick: "I do."

McClain: "We'll leave Friday … after we mess around with each other for a while."

On the day Hedrick was scheduled to meet McClain at the Burger King in Turlock, Calif., a petite female police officer posed as Christine.

When McClain arrived at the location, the female officer walked inside the Burger King and he followed. That's when police moved in.

Police said they found a gun, hair dye, girls' clothing and sex toys in the vehicle McClain used to drive to the meeting place. The clothes included a shirt with the word "Precious" airbrushed across the top. Police said McClain referred to Christine as "Precious."

"If this had been a real child looking for that kind of attention, he easily could have met that child, picked up that child and taken that child back to Texas with him," said Sgt. Adam Christianson of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Wall said parents need to understand that their children are curious and naïve. "They can be lured into these chat room areas and they can be invited there by sexual predators," Wall said.

McClain was arrested on four felony counts, while police back in Texas reported finding child pornography in the man's Kerrville home.

Kerrville police Lt. Joe Lanning said his officers searched McClain's home about the time of his arrest in California. Police in Texas had been working with the California detectives since November on the case.

McClain pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him and he remains in jail in lieu of $255,000 bail. He's due in court Jan. 13 and could face up to 13 years in prison if he is found guilty.

Christianson said McClain's arrest should serve as a warning to those who prey use the Internet to prey on kids.

"You ought to think twice before interacting with children and entering into this kind of behavior," Christianson said. "It could be a police officer you are talking to, and we are going to arrest you."

What should happen to him . . . hmmm . . . assuming he's actually guilty of doing something, then maybe prison for life.

HOWEVER, this sounds an awful lot like entrapment and since he never, uh, closed the deal (they arrested him before he even had a chance to meet the female police officer that was playing the role at the sting), then I'm not really certain what should be done.

I'm guessing a really good lawyer might be able to get him off.

If, on the other hand, they have information that he is responsible for a pattern of crimes like this, then that probably changes my view on things, but the report on GMA I saw this morning certainly didn't indicate that.

He didn't actually do anything....Don't get me wrong, I would shoot him myself given the chance, but we run into entrapment issues....How bad should his punishment be? I would say there is a good chance he would have killed a real girl, given the gun....
Can we punish people for what we think they are going to do???? I guess so...Iraq looks like it will be the precident.

Is there some chance that he had that for personal protection while driving alone cross country? Or can we assume that anyone with a gun means to shoot whomever he is on his way to meet?

If he had a machette, would you assume he meant to cut her? A pocket knife?

How about if he showed up in a car capable of running her over?

Just questions to ponder ... I'm not a fan of molesters, myself, but it does bother me when people jump to conclusions about intent.

He drove 1500 miles...Hardly entrapment...I bet the DA did that on purpose...made him drive that is....very smart....

Since the internet knows no boundries, I find it very difficult to believe that the DA specifically targeted this guy at a distance.

My -guess- is that the police were simply laying in wait and just reeled in the first guy they hooked.

My further guess is that there's more to this story that has yet to be told . . .

Tough questions too...I think we need to bring human judgement into this, not Spock logic. We all know damn well what this guy was up to...His statements are going to sink him. This is the same as some guy trying to pay an undercover cop to take out his wife. Those convictions stand and it is not considered entrapment. If he initaiated contact on the internet, kept persuing her after he knew she was 13 then drove 1500 miles, I think we can safely and JUSTLY presume he would have molested her.

>:( The guy wants to have sex and or kill a 13 year old girl.

Entrapement or not - intention to kill or not - he deserves to die a most horrible death - torture.

I would personally take a rusty jagged razor blade and make about 100 small but deep cuts in his penis, then wait for it to fall off and if that didn't kill him, then dragging him naked behind a car would be fine too.

Some may think this is too drastic, some may think its not drastic enough. We are not tough enough on the child rapists, child killers, and pedofiles.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

They should have, at the very least, allowed him to enter the Burger King and make direct contact with the police officer portraying the girl. My -guess- is that they didn't because it would have been more difficult for --media-- reasons.

As bad as this entire situation is, I'll bet there was a hell of a lot of leeway and consideration to the fact that a TV crew was there.

How do you REALLY feel? I'm 100% with you, however. I would like to be the one that defines "cruel and unusual". This guy wouldn't like my interpritation.

Even though I have no children, just nieces and nephews, I get really upset when these freaks hurt children - Its just incomprehensible why people want to hurt the kids.

Yeah, and in that order.

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

Personally, I would like to see a speedy trial (with a conviction of course) followed by a heavy prison sentence.

It won't matter what the prison sentence is. It doesn't matter what we (law abiding citizens) want to do, or would do.

What does matter is what the prison inmates will do. They'll do sh*t to this guy that would scare the stipes off a tiger. All you need is a conviction, the rest will take care of itself.[:/]
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I don't know how that would work.. if the girl is supposed to be 13, how would even the youngest looking officer be able to pull that off without him knowing something was up.
