franck102 0 #1 January 1, 2003 Ok, here goes the first one... One morning I ask mouth (Lisa) what she's up to: "Formation load, come on, join us, you can do it!". The coach looks a bit skeptical when he hears about my 60 jumps but gives his ok saying he'll keep it at 8 (actually 9 in the end). Dirt dive time. Coach: "We'll start with a 3 way base, cats, yadadadada" - wham - 3 seconds later I'm standing there arms at my sides with 16 pairs of eyes staring at me. Lisa is waiving her arm so I grab that, and since I've got the coach's arm in front of me I go for it. Turns out it was supposed to be leg and wrist, so I fix that and we're back in business. "Now we'll just turn the cats". I let go of my grips, the coach & Lisa start turning, I start running after the grips I was supposed to keep, bump into the opposite piece on my way, finally catch up on two arm grips. 16 pair of eyes staring at me, Lisa shaking her arm, I switch to leg and hand grips, we're back in business. Next point I'm to join the base, and I got that right - cool. The coach looks surprised, dunno why... Next point I'm to take a side body on the coach. I can do that, easy -) 16 pair of eyes staring at me, the coach informs me that I am currently flying on my back... oh well. Now we start repeating the sequence. Meaning the 8 of them turn a point, I stand there for 3 seconds then rush to the wrong grips... 12 times in a row. That's when Lisa turns to me and asks "Are you sure you're up to this?". Just what I needed, I would strangle her on the spot but I happen to have the right grips in hand so that'll have to wait. Time to work on the exit. I am a first row diver, everything goes pretty well until I try to grab the coach's cheststrap. He insists I'm not to take any grips, gives a few more tricks for the exit, and to the plane we go... Jump run, I get in the door in the right place, exit pretty much on "go" and 5 seconds later I am perfectly set up 30 feet away from the base. I pick up the coach's white suit on the other side, and fly to my slot smoothly in 5 more seconds - I'm feeling like a skygod! I've heard something about not taking grips too early so I just hang there. I get a kick looking at Lisa taking an eternity to fly to her slot (well, ok, at least a couple second I swear) while I am just waiting there, I decide I won't strangle her this time after all. Quick look at the base... uh oh, I drifted a bit close... here's the coaches container... his main flap... sky, earth, sky, and hop, suddenly the formation is all the way up there! I can't believe it, this is so unfair -) I am back up at around 5k, set up to come in but looking at those guys turning points like crazy I decide to call it a day and I just wait for the break off. That was a lot of fun, I learned a lot, and at least I didn't take out the formation -) Thank you Lisa for getting me in on this! I don't think she'll invite me again on a dive anytime soon though - sigh... Franck
