RichM 0 #26 December 29, 2002 That's a bitch. My year of racing burned it out of me, I don't have a bike anymore, and don't particularly feel the need. Skydiving is way safer Mad Sunday is a good day to find a pub on the circuit and watch the nutters going round the track. About 11 miles of circuit over the mountain is made one way, and there are no speed limits on most of that. It can be fast and furious and exhilirating, but it isn't because you're about 5 abreast all the way, hardly anyone knows how to go round corners properly, and they let coaches and grannies in 4x4s drive round at 20mph. Silly sods I took a 500cc softtail chop over there one year and had a ball with pretty boys in colour matched leathers and pristine knee sliders sitting on the lastest Jap missile by screaming round them on the outside of corners with my wife on the back *sigh* Fond memories Rich M
Squeak 17 #27 December 29, 2002 I havn't missed a WSB race or MotoGP (nee 500GP) race in the last 5 years, we get them televised and shit awful times like 1am but I still watch them, some time I fall asleep during them so I always video tape the race while I'm watching just in case. When the season is over and I'm at home I watch "fastbike" videos. It's a bunch of crazy arsed Pommie bastards tryinfg to destry brand new bikes. Well worth watching. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
Ian84 0 #28 December 29, 2002 Yep......buildings, walls, telephone poles and dont forget spectators. My cousin lives down the road from the grand stand on the TT course. A few years ago he thought it would be fun to run accross the track with a dictaphone to record it. First you hear a couple of bikes going 170mph then him running his ass off, then a policeman chasing him and the whole time hes giggling like a schoolgirl. He was 10 years old when he did that but watching the TT yesterday made me think of what would happen if those bikes hit him......thankfully hes a lot more sensible now (hes 18) but its one more thing for the guys racing that track have to contend with. Man they must have balls of steel......

hughbetcha 0 #30 December 29, 2002 I spent a couple of years as a corner flag worker at race city speedway when i was living in Calgary Alberta. i had a GSXR 750 and an RZ 350 but i never raced myself. i recently became addicted to speed channel when my girlfriend moved in with me and hooked up cable. i followed my first formula 1 season, and CART. i went to see the CART race in Montreal this year where i live now and i can hear the formula 1 and CART cars from my house. i love Moto GP and WSB and formula extreme bike racing and i have really been enjoying the touring car championships. like the german touring car masters and the british touring car races. they really like to push eachother around when they have body work covering the wheels! oh yeah and did anyone see the footage of tommi makkainen rollling like eight times in his rally subaru? wow. mark

hughbetcha 0 #32 December 29, 2002 yeah, didn't eddie irvine think of doing some rally but after he got outta the car when they gave him a co driver ride he said NO-WAY to dangerous! and Valentino Rossi went off on his first try after he won the Moto gp. i used to plant trees up north in canada and i drove alot of road like that (albeit in a truck) but holy shit driving that fast only on what you see and what some guy next to you is telling you! wow mark
freeflyguy 0 #33 December 29, 2002 Quote A few years ago he thought it would be fun to run accross the track ...... For some reason we got the bright idea to run down the Corkscrew at Laguna every year. Then it turned into kissing the corkscrew. It is a ball, hiding in the bushes dodging security, then making a break for it. Never been caught, but real close. Yah, World Rally is Nuts ---------------------------- bzzzz
Gawain 0 #34 December 29, 2002 Don't know if you get to catch it on Speed or not, but they seem to be giving more coverage to British Touring Car this year, and that is some wild racing too. Those guys are always going at it in some sick machines, MGs, Civic Type Rs, Vauxhall (sp?)... It's the off season for that series now right? It's very fast paced and I'm curious about the "production" class versus the others in the field...they all seem to be going the same speed, so what's the difference? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Gawain 0 #36 December 29, 2002 I've not watched too much of it, a lot of Ford vs. GM V8s...though I like the circuits they race...better than running around in an oval...So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! KawiZX900 0 #37 December 30, 2002 did you tape the isle of man? Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Guaranteed reaction- Dave Sonsky

Scoby 0 #40 December 30, 2002 I love Formula One, but I really think it's suffering right now. The racing has been missing for a while. There needs to be a reduction in aerodynamic grip, and an increase in mechanical grip. Too many GPs are looking like high speed parades... As for motorcycles, the racing tends be much better (though Rossi had a rather Shumie-like season). Edwards come-from-behind championship in WSB was stunning. MotoGP will really come into it's own next season. It's an exciting time, with changes in formula and lots of talent.
ernokaikkonen 0 #41 December 30, 2002 I don't care much for F1, but the world rally series is more to my liking. Too bad it hasn't been as much on the TV as F1. Did you hear Mika Häkkinen is going to get behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi rally car?
Gawain 0 #42 December 30, 2002 QuoteI love Formula One, but I really think it's suffering right now. The racing has been missing for a while. There needs to be a reduction in aerodynamic grip, and an increase in mechanical grip. Too many GPs are looking like high speed parades... Funny you mention that. All the changes which mandated less mechanical grip (slotted tires, etc.) were just implemented in the past couple of years right? Personally, I would like to see just one or two more manufacturers get involved, and I would like to see Honda get in the game full time the way Toyota and Ferrari are. Williams/BMW and McLaren/Mercedes, Bar Honda, Jordan Honda...sheesh. Toyota, being a new team this year, had an outstanding performance. I think they will surpass one of the German marques in the next two years, if all other mfg arrangements remain. I understand the high-speed parade...but think about the work that Fiat let Ferrari do on this project, an amazing payoff for the risk. Schummacher will win another championship next year if Fiat keeps their accountants out of the way (a big risk, since the company is not doing too well and GM is a looming shadow of influence *yuck*).So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! RichM 0 #43 December 30, 2002 Man that's a scream, they'd have probably whipped him :) A few years ago they had a new Minister for Sport on the island, and he was new to the island. Early one morning in practise week he reversed a bloody great dumper on the road during closed roads while practise was on, luckily he didn't kill anyone, but they fined him quite a bit. Jeez, what a dork, how can you be Minister for Sport on the IOM and not know about the TT. heheRich M
