ltdiver 3 #1 December 30, 2002 Spent most of the afternoon down the street at a neighbor's house. Well, -near- the neighbor's house. It went up in a wall of flame!! I'd gone outside to do yard work when the smell of smoke filled the air and fire engine sirens got louder and louder! Yikes! Seems my neighbor had been cleaning out the fireplace and something got out of hand. Sucks big-time as the weather outside is bitter cold, too. It was neat to see the whole neighborhood, however, come together and lend a hand as they could. The men helping with what they could, and the women tending to the kids and mom's needs. They lost the whole house and everything in it. Makes me very thankful to be sitting here in my warm house right now. Roof overhead and a cup of cocoa in front of me. Ya'll be careful out there this winter season. Love ya'll. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Please allow plenty of time for all the ambers to go out before cleaning out the fireplace. When we lived in New England, we usually waited several weeks before we shoveled out the ash to clean the fireplace. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! ltdiver 3 #5 December 30, 2002 QuoteDamn that sucks!! Hope they had good insurance. Hope they did, too! They are renters and the home owner lives in Oregon. We're in CA. Wonder how many renters carry renter's insurance out there... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

ltdiver 3 #8 December 30, 2002 Quote Glad no one was hurt. (right?) Everybody's physically fine. The tears were real, though. We all made sure they had clothes and essentials before they left. The wife's mom lives somewhere close, so that's good. They were getting offers left and right to come and stay with anyone there on the block. I'm so lucky to be in a quiet neighborhood that looks out for each other so well. Someone once called it a "Leave it to Beaver" block. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

When we lived in New England, we usually waited several weeks before we shoveled out the ash to clean the fireplace. that stinks for your neighbor, that's for sure, I feel bad for them... but OTOH, we couldn't wait for weeks to clean the chimney. I lived in a 200 year old house and we heated completely with wood (40 cords per winter -- it got cold in the adirondacks). but they didn't design the chimney correctly so we'd (me) would have to clean it every three weeks or so. There I'd go up to the metal roof in the middle of january with the whole house telling me to hurry up cause it was 40 in the house. Sometimes I'd just start a chimney fire and dispense with the roof climbing. I do not miss those days....

blewaway5 0 #15 December 30, 2002 hehehe, nothing like that walk anywhere else in the world, I tell you. Uphill both ways in six feet of snow, barefoot. And let me tell you, it sucks walking on that blacktop barefoot when it's 110 degrees outside. It'll burn the frostbite right off your toes.
