goose491 0 #4 December 20, 2002 NeverMind medicinal use! We were sooooo close to de-criminalizing last year. The only thing that changed our mind was You Yankees! The U.S. said they would mess with trade agreements and seriously tighten border crossings making it harder on Canadian citizens... Knowing that crossing the border southbound is already no barrel of laughs compared to the other direction, we backed down. Canada as a whole, does not see Mary-Jane as a big threat. freeflir29 0 #5 December 20, 2002 Quote Canada as a whole, does not see Mary-Jane as a big threat. I'm still not sure why we do. I mean....I have seen the hystory on how it got outlawed in the 20's but it was just knee jerk. It seems crazy to me that a naturally occuring plant is outlawed. pds 0 #6 December 20, 2002 seems to me that it IS effectively decriminalized in canada. when a man can sit down at the new amsterdam with the papers he bought at the head shop next door and get as baked as he wanstabe. jmhonamaste, motherfucker. jtval 0 #7 December 20, 2002 I guess they are afriad to leaglize it because everyone would be growing it...no PROFIT THERE! (I can kinda see that point of view) I would rather give up alcohol and take up smoking again! My photos My Videos

(I can kinda see that point of view) I would rather give up alcohol and take up smoking again! Nah... there would be a business. You can brew your own beer, but it is time consuming and inconvenient for most people. You can grow your own tobacco too, but nobody does. If legalized, there would be a huge industry. jtval 0 #9 December 20, 2002 hmm Im still not sure I know LOTSA ppl who grow their own b/c its hard to get. Im sure if the market WAS introduced and it was EASY to get then the growers would worry more about growing those damn dorritos...they are fickleMy photos My Videos

akaGQ 0 #12 December 20, 2002 From what Ive heard and read Nevada is about to legalize marijuana theyve allready legalized gambling and prostitution and in order for a state to have something legalized they must have it pass some sorta vote two years in a row it passed last year for 2002 and now they are gonna try and get it passed for 2003 then from what I understand it will be legal by 2004. If so then hey Im packin my bags and movin to Nevada. goose491 0 #16 December 20, 2002 Quote From what Ive heard and read Nevada is about to legalize marijuana..... Don't know where you could possible have heard that!! Nevada has some of the most strict anti-marijuana laws in the States!! You could say it's "practically" de-criminalized here in Canada. I mean, to the point where I am not afraid to admit that I use it. I've been 'caught' by officers, joint in hand, and told no more than "Hey, take that home son. We don't want to see it in the streets." The thing about de-criminalizing as opposed to legalizing is that by de-criminalizing, it remains a "controled substance"... just like booze. This means you cannot make money selling it unless you got the papperwork. I brew my own beer but cannot sell it (not on a large scale anyway). Also, it would be a great benefit to the Canadian economy if our Government could export. Our bud is in High demand! The last I heard, British Columbia Weed ranked second only to Afganistan on the Global Bud Quality scale!... Not bad eh? I'm going to BC in March for my Birthday BTW My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! akaGQ 0 #17 December 20, 2002 Ok maybe de-criminalize is the terminology I was looking for but I did read that casinos are fighting to allow the use of marijuana inside there casinos. But I need to get something to back this up. Still looking when I find the article again Ill post it here.- GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg

akaGQ 0 #19 December 20, 2002 This year Nevada, will once again, gamble on marijuana. In 1998 and 2000, legalization proponents lobbied the state to legalize marijuana as medicine, resulting in the passage of Question 9. Question 9 also reduced penalties for possession of up to 1-ounce marijuana. This year, they want to go further still, effectively becoming the first state in the United State to legalize marijuana use. This new initiative, referred to as Ballot Question 9, would require the state to grow, tax, and distribute marijuana to retail stores for sale to the public. Under Ballot Question 9, anyone 21 years of age and older would be permitted to use or possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana without any legal or criminal ramifications. I could be wrong though http://www.lvrj.com/lvrj_home/2002/Sep-01-Sun-2002/news/19531816.html this is the results of the ballot for last year I believe so I was behind times I apologize.- GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg

riddler 0 #23 December 23, 2002 If any state legalizes it, the fed will probably respond by withholding federal highway funds from that state. They did the same thing when they raised the drinking age to 21, and states like Colorado tried to hold out against it. The whole thing is stupid, considering tobacco is legal. I guess tobacco had a better lobby back in the days of prohibition when the government was trying to outlaw everything. And of course, we can't just admit that we're a bunch of hypocrytes and go back now. How would that make Nancy Reagan look in the history books?Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
