not until they're done with mine. :)

lately, compared to cocks, er, i mean cox, they've provided more consistent connections. if it wasn't for adsl's shitty bandwidth, i'd prolly nix the cable altogether.

they won't let us do it that way for some reason

That's unacceptable. Call them back, ask to speak to a manager, and tell them that you run a home based business and you can't possibly be without your internet connection for 2 weeks.

GO higher up on the Support chain... They CAN switch the name over. Level one support says no.... Get to tier 3 support. They CAN and will switch it if you are diligent. "

"You can't help me??? get some one who will please.. Yes get me your supervisor"

(get a direct line phone number too... don't let them put you back in the queue

Let them know that down time is not acceptable.
You need access to keep up with your work Emails blah blah... Large attachments... systems administration.. that sort of thing.

It's a pain but sure beats 15 days... They can do it in 15 minutes. Level one is trained to say they can't do it, and usually they do not know it can be.

Good luck

PS: Nothing at all needs to be done at your home or any where in between PAC bells office. It's all local to PAC bell. It truly takes a few minutes of their time, Not hours days or weeks.

ESCALATE as SLowfaller says... They understand that word, but will try very hard not to Escalate. It's their job so be nice, but don't cut any slack.

You are so right. My mother in law worked there for 35 years. She has Cox digital phone svc. It is far superior - at least way out east here.

HAHAAHAAAAA.

Every business I've worked for would have a party if they could the phone company to do ANYTHING in two weeks, much less install a data line. Don't they charge more if you're running a business?

Ok.. "I"m a student taking online classes. I'm not willing to flunk the classes."

Besides, Email and the need to stay connected for reasons they don't even need to know is an acceptable reason in itself.

Rapid changes have been made by the phone company for the company I work for, and people in our dept, using the ESCALATE approach.. Be annoying but nice.

Those bastards are going to rot in the same hell. They just raised our rates, and the last four days have had 2-3 hour downtimes at least once a day. I call to find out what's going on and the simpleton on the other end wants me to reboot my PC, etc., etc. Look, I can see the traceroutes failing on YOUR EQUIPMENT! How the f*ck are there all these great networking people out of work, and this cheese-head has a job? "Keep an eye on it, and if it's still not working tomorrow, call back", like I have no life. Oh, the last two days I call and there's a recording "many customers throughout New England may be experienceing outages, we have technicians working...", yads yada yada. Fuckers either didn't realize there was a problem for a couple of days, or didn't bother to tell their front-line support people.

This is classic monopoly ass-fucking. Bandwidth prices and tech salaries are plumetting, and they have the gall to raise rates when they STILL haven't figured out how to run a damn network. If they were in the Web Hosting business, or anywhere upstream, they'd be deader than shit right now. The phone and cable companies are fucking dinosaurs and have no right to be in the ISP business.

But I'm not letting it get to me at all. :S:D>:(:P;):(:D[:/]B|

Well, it took Charter a while to get their pipeline service here fairly straightened out, and I haven't had a serious outage in at least 4 or 5 months.

That said, the prices are outragous.
I'm stuck with a 250k dl(yea, we get capped lower, AGAIN) and a 128k upstream at almost $50 a month! Up until now there has been NO broadband competition in this area. Things they are a changing! I'm giving Charter one last chance to offer me a better deal (I don't want to have to change my main email, again). You see, the CITY here decided to get into the broadband market. They are offering a meg bi-directional (yea, a full meg upload AND download) wireless for $32 a month. If Charter can drop prices/raise my cap speed to stay competative, I'll stay with them. If not.....wireless, here I come!

Yum, wireless! Watch how fast DSL and cable prices drop, and how many providers eat dust when that rolls out!

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a few million $ right now! ;)

Anyone out there using DirectPC (satellite broadband)? That's my only other existing option (too far from CO for DSL), but I don't want to go from one hell to another...

I don't wanna rain on your parade, but what do you think the Internet was designed around? The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Who do you think the Internet is? It is: AT&T, Sprint, WorldCom (UUNet), Cable&Wireless and Genuity (Level 3/Verizon investment).

No matter who your ISP is, that traffic rides off of one of those five networks. They are the Internet. Sorry... [:/]

Well, no. But that's not really who I am talking about. I meant the legacy LEC's who are providing local DSL service. In my case, Verizon, nee Bell Atlantic, nee NYNEX, nee AT&T. Did I miss any? :P

Verizon's (former Bell Atl) GNI backbone (built by Qwest and GTE) is part of that core network of "Tier 1" cloud that is the Internet. The fact they get to make an attempt and provide a local loop (DSL) to you is a matter of cirumstance... ;)

P.S. While everyone I think still get's a shock out of your avatar...I think it's cool!

I'm not sure how we got in this subject, I was bitching about the incompetence of the cable and local phone companies. Maybe Verizon's backbone people know what they are doing, I don't know, I've never had the pleasure. I do know that they play major f*cking games with the CLECs for provisioning T-1s, etc., like saying they can't get into a demark for several weeks, but magically being able to do it sooner if you buy from them. Of course, then its down to an amazing two weeks, and we're supposed to think that's magical.

I'm glad you appreciate the avitar, unlike some people. :P
