kevin922 0 #2 December 18, 2002 Well this is my first christmas alone (don't know if that is beer worthy or not). anyway, it's getting to that point. My truck has been a never ending pit for money beginning conveniently at the beginning of this month, I am planning on going to FL for new years which i'm questioning if I really should with the money situation.. at least school is over with. but to answer your question, yeah sorta. Gawain 0 #3 December 18, 2002 Livin' it! The DZ and a busy day at the office are about all that keeps me sane. I'll be happier when we're out of the Bermuda Triangle of the holidays... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! lawrocket 3 #5 December 18, 2002 I haven't had more than three days in a row off since February. Yeah, I guess you could day I'm in a bit of a funk... Maybe in March I can take off a whole four days in a row! My wife is hotter than your wife.
phatcat 0 #6 December 18, 2002 I do. Everything is all weird. Weird is normally a good thing for me but not when it's everybody else that's weird. Weird people that aren't my version of weird scare me. I'd like to say "weird" one more time - WEIRD.
sharpfive 0 #7 December 18, 2002 Yeah, every year the commercialism seems to get worse. This evening I was walking through the city, the lights and decorations were out, sidewalk Santas were ringing their bells. All of a sudden I heard a car horn blast for five seconds and heard a young lady yell "get the F*** out of the road!" Happy Holidays :-)
SpeedRacer 1 #8 December 18, 2002 you just gotta ignore the commericalist bullshit & focus on what matters. If other people wanna run around like idiots & believe that Christmas is about stressing out & maxing out their credit cards, well, screw 'em, its their loss & you can't talk 'em out of it anyway. sharpfive 0 #9 December 18, 2002 That's the right attitude. My family made the pledge years ago to cut down on the gifts and focus on the pleasure of being together for a whole day. Have you jumped at Kingsdale yet?
f1freak 0 #10 December 18, 2002 Yep, i think that is what it's all about.... I think that is one reason that this year is going to be harder than the others.... I know that i will be alone for all of it...HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE

SpeedRacer 1 #13 December 18, 2002 Quote My family made the pledge years ago to cut down on the gifts and focus on the pleasure of being together for a whole day. Yeah that's waht we've done. Except for the children in the family, b/c gifts on Christmas are important to them. But when you're an adult, what do you really need? I'll tell you what you don't need...stressing out about buying the perfect gift for everyone & having the perfect little Martha Stuart Christmas. My Mom took the initiative on this policy because she hates shopping so much. She's going to take the money she saves & donate it to this charity that buys livestock for poor people in Asia. I think that's a better reflection of what Christmas is really about! Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
f1freak 0 #14 December 18, 2002 Well, i live on the east coast and the parents are in minnesota... The funny thing is that they are gonna be in AZ over christmas.... They had planned on meeting me there and come out and watch some jumpin....HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE
sharpfive 0 #15 December 18, 2002 More people need to think like that. You don't have to believe in the Christmas story to live the philosophy.
SpeedRacer 1 #16 December 18, 2002 Quote More people need to think like that. yeah but if they did what would happen to the American economy?out-of-control consumerism is what this country is all about! Snowwhite 0 #18 December 18, 2002 We do it differently at our house everybody gets ONE present. ONE We start with the littlest kid, who sits in the middle of the room, and opens it while being video taped. And so we go by age..If your exchange person is not at the family gathering you have to stand in the middle of the room, explain what you got that person, how hard it was to find, wrap, send, any amusing antidote, and that gets videoed instead. By the time we go thru 46 or 47 people, it takes most of the day. Everybody had to spend a total of $35.00 on their one exchange person, and the telling of the tale is the Christmas Spirit, not the hundreds or thousands of depressing dollars some people might put on their charge cards. Talk your family into getting back to the basics, and you'll enjoy yourselves a lot more. btw, we send copies of the video to the few who couldn't make it to the gathering, so they get to see it too. Two years ago, my sister-in-law made each of the sisters a bottle of wine. Nice touch. My favorite part of Christmas? My husband will sing 'Oh Holy Night' at church as a solo. I don't need anything else. If you are really in a funk, get out, find someone who is worse off than you, and give them a hand. Believe me, there are a lot of folk who need our help. Go to the local food pantry, and work for an afternoon. Your car problems won't seem nearly as big a deal, when you realize that you can FEED yourself for Christmas, and a lot of folk can't do that. I don't mean to trivialize your challenges, I just want you to be able to put them into perspective. My second son spent every Christmas for 12 years in the hospital. Who cares what was under the tree? I wish you all a merry Christmas, and I hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy it in some way. tigra 0 #20 December 18, 2002 Yup! Over worked, over tired, and trying to juggle too much at once. Plus I lost an uncle and an aunt in the past 2 months. I am not at all in the holiday spirit. Christmas shopping for my nieces and nephews usually puts me in the mood, but this year, I haven't really had the time or the money. (I'm trying to buy a house and become a responsible adult!) But this too shall pass! I'm sure of it! maura

tigra 0 #23 December 18, 2002 Thank you Travis, You are right about keeping things in perspective though. Watching what my mom has gone through the past 2 months has made me rethink some priorities. I still have my health, my mom, my brother and sisters and their wonderful kids, good friends, a roof over my head, plus maybe a little too much job security. But every year, and this year especially, it doesn't feel like Christmas if I don't get to see my sisters and their kids. We used to always make the effort, but the past 3 years or so, it hasn't happened. Now we are all scattered across the country and all the kids are getting older, and there are "exes" and custody and visitation issues to consider! Wow! This thread has helped me realize the main cause of my holiday funk, and if nothing else, it gives me a goal for next year!! So thanks everyone! Happy holidays!! I think I'm gonna call my sister!maura
