BE CAREFUL. More people die from flying corks than something, I can't remember what. I just got hit in the head with a cork and now I can't remember.....DOOR!

Home alone, struggling with the champagne cork. If last year was any indicator, I will give up on the champagne cork about 11:59 pm 12/31, and pour out a shot of Jack Daniels. I'll slam it, and then go to bed. Alone.

Sigh...

Go to your DZ, there's got to be something happening (jump?) for Midnight.:)

Since I'm not going to Eloy, I'll probably be trying to sleep, and cursing my neighbors for setting off fireworks.

Most likely working voluntary OT on New Years' Day.

LouDiamond, "DOOR" is all you ever need to remember. I've put out my fair share of lights and whatnot popping the cork....:S

Hi, Narcimund...

Awwwww... That's sad. Don't be alone. Come visit us. We've got much better than JD to drink.

If I could afford to come up, you would have me there in a heartbeat. Can I take a raincheck for next year?

Hey, Sled...

I'm not nearly ready for a night jump...I'm barely landing on my feet in the general vicinity of the DZ in full sunlight and perfect wind conditions. Besides, I don't think they rent gear for night jumps...

Thanks for the offer and suggestion...maybe I'll go bug my 80 year old Pop or something. He's within walking distance...

Going to a party at my friend's house. Him and his wife just bought a new house - surprised that they are having the party this year.

We'll try to save a little of the Dalmore Stillman's Dram 29 Year Highland Malt (cask strength!) and Remy Martin Extra Perfection for you.

Hey, Narcimund...you got a deal. I've never tried Stillman's, but I know I adore Remy Martin! Just can't generally afford it.

Thanks for the raincheck. I'll make sure I take you up on it. Your parties are legendary (well, according to you, at any rate!;)).

I was planning to go hit the gay bars with my posse, but it just occured to me that there might be a party at the DZ that night. If there is, I'm a-going. I never get to go to DZ parties.

Whatever I do, at midnight I'll be looking wistfully toward Ohio and wishing I were with my grave-robbin' special friend.

Probably sit at home alone as usual and go to bed early.[:/]:|:(

Better yet. Throw a party! Print a flyer with your ph no. and directions to your house. Ph. nbr for the lost. Run 50 copies at Kinkos. Invite 3 times as many as you think will come. Tell them to bring munchies. Not going to a party, throw one!

Well, let me tell you about last night. We finally got the DZO and his girlfriend (who runs the video at the DZ) to drive up for dinner. We wanted to make it special.

Dinner began with a cheese plate. A goopy, creamy, french cheese called Eppoises (ask around any cheese nerds you know and watch their eyes get big.) Also served a chevre and a rosemary-encrusted manchego. This all accompanied by a magnum of borolo.

While the sauces reduced, we gave them a tour of the liquor cabinet. Scotches and cognacs and grappas were passed around.

Dinner proper was a tapas family-style smorgasbord. It included three flame grilled duck breasts in a tayberry, wine, and pomegranate syrup, grilled new zealand rack of lamb in a port and veal demi-glaze with carmelized onions, crab-stuffed imported pequillo peppers, jamon serrano wrapped prawns with hawaiian alae salt and green onions. Of course a lovely fresh green salad with more chevre, pomegranate seeds, and provolone and proscuitto stuffed peppers, and several more wines were involved as well.

Dessert was a store-bought opera cake with polished genache and a sprinkling of 24k gold dust. Coffee, more cognacs, ice wine, and a 25 year old grand marnier I bring out only on special occasions.

We outdid ourselves this time!

Sadly the pair of cut crystal snifters (a gift from an ex's mother) suffered an accident and now there's only one.

I have a secret though. Don't tell anyone, but snifters are more for show than drinking. I have some cheapo grappa glasses that are far better with brandy. They're shaped sorta like this:

I will be in Florida for New Year's Eve. I bought an all black one piece outfit dealy from Wet Seal, and it is officially mother-approved! It's not too slutty! How exciting is that?

Also, for those of you without New Year's plans....one year, some of my friends went to a concert in Chicago for half the night, then the other half the night hung out with homeless people they met (I think I was getting drunk with my brother for the first time...that's why I missed out :(). There are always people out there wanting to meet you and hang out with you!

There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Damnit! Multiple spaces don't render in html. And this forum's markup doesn't allow   either.

Sorry, I can't draw it. Anyway, it's a small glass, maybe 2.5 ounces. It's narrow and constricts right below the rim. It's like a small bowl with a narrower chimney.

Val - if you get all dressed up you are certain to be the life of the party! (Okay - I admit it.... you would be anyhow, but...) Last year I don't remember anyone wearing anything special. WE jumped all day and just threw on a sweatshirt or sweater after the sun went down. Rock on sistah!
