blueshrew 0 #176 December 12, 2002 That's a load of crap. If we're talking about police brutality with no cause, then I think Germany is definitely on the nice side of things. I have a couple of friends with stories about police brutality in the states that are really movie material. Never heard of anything like that over here. Guest #177 December 12, 2002 QuoteQuoteFrom what I understand though you do not have the same freedom to choose your college or area of study like we do in the USA. Is this correct? No that's not correct. You can choose where you wanna go. With some majors that are on high demand with limited seats, you may not get your first choice if your grades were bad. With all other majors, you just sign up, and you're in (providing you have a school degree, of course). And if anyone is getting everything on a silver platter, it's not the German students. That's the truth. Yeah, you can get a free education at University in Germany, but only if your Gymnasium grades qualify you. If they don't? Well, then, you're going to Technisches Schule (trade school). You don't have a lot of choice. Over here, you can go to any college that will take you. Yes, it can be expensive, and some schools are both competitive and expensive, but at least you have a choice, and a chance. Over there, you get what the State gives you."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
blueshrew 0 #178 December 12, 2002 That too is a load of crap. If that were true, I wouldn't be in University right now going for my Masters. If you have an Abitur you get into university. If you have bad grades, you can either accept that that won't get you into a popular university, or wait a couple of years and have a better chance at getting into that popular university. There is thing called waiting time that compensates for bad grades. So even if your grades suck, you get to go to a top university if you wait a while. Now tell me that you have that chance at an Ivy League or another top university. edit: there is no such thing as a Technische Schule, there's a Technische Hochschule, which is like a college and is for people who want a more practice oriented degree. (Technische) Universitaet is for people who want a more academic degree. Hochschule degrees are shorter in time than Universitaet degrees. Neither has anything to do with your grades, but what your goal is. (Where do you get your info???)
Guest #179 December 12, 2002 Guess things have changed in the 20 years that have passed since I was there. This was also based upon what I was told by my German friends; perhaps they left out some of the finer points, so it looks as though I was misinformed. Thanks for correcting my errors."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Beerlight 0 #188 December 14, 2002 Mark!!! FYI -- I received a mail yesterday at work stating the AF is INVESTIGATING the release of the AC-130 video. It stated that the "leak" was at Pentagon level and the OSI is investigating! BTW, that video made it onto CD and was distributed around the AF all last week. My boss showed it in the classroom to a bunch of AF student pilots! Not long after that our Command Coordinator called stating to NOT to show the video in class again. BTW I'm an AD AF E-7. Are you familiar with SECHAN? right in the middle of Lancaster suburbs(the legitimate group from ISC) If I was to lean to the right and take a photo, you can see the equipment and vehichles being preped for guidance and topograghical "theater of WAR" mapping. The Sub equipment and Harpoon misslie systems are kept inside. They still have systems for the Tomahawks but, Gov't stopped req's prior(that's been quite a while). My father-in-law is over there working right now(my sweet little frail wife "XENA Of Lititiz" used to make Claymore circut boards there as summer help when she was 16/just a few years ago) >>>>>>IT seems that EVERYone around me is exciting in some way, I just get talked into others people stuff---it's quit the ride though._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

Having pulled many claymores apart to get at the insides I have never found a circuit board. In fact the only thing electrical is the blasting cap/firing wire. I'm guessing your speaking of the 700 steel ballbearings that are molded into a sheet and placed on top of the explosive?"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

They were not "Claymores", they could be remotely activated though. They only handle the electronics there and NO ordinance is at the location._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

Well, thanks for the heads-up, but that video is now "In the Wild", as they say, and the OSI is now on a headhunt to find out who leaked it initially. I'm not worried that they'll come knocking on my door. I'm one of thousands who downloaded that."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
