CrazyIvan 0 #1 December 13, 2002 Maybe this is kinda silly, but, is there such thing as 'Loyalty' to your home DZ?, what I mean is, say that you are a student and because of the weather (like is happening now here up north) you can't finish your AFF, so you decide to go to Florida and finish it, and maybe even get licensed. Do you think the rest of the skydivers/students at your home DZ will look at you as a 'Traitor' because you didn't do it with the rest of the team? What do you think?__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
wmw999 2,545 #2 December 13, 2002 If they do look at you as a traitor, they're being a little silly, or maybe just jealous. On the other hand, if you come back expecting godlike treatment because of your now-increased experience, well, then you're being a little silly. I'd be happy for you. yardhippie 0 #3 December 13, 2002 F!@k em! I did all my aff at my dz and was helping with cleaning and hell everything else I could think of. then they ran off the best instructor there, then a couple of the camera people and then the best tandem master. I spent a chunk with them. Now I go by there (last weekend for instance) and there not even open? 50F and light wind... No wonder I drive to memphis... But this is really a little off the subject. A buddy of mine put in perspective: I call him a P!@sy for not going to jump w/ me and he said when I get as many as him... then I can talk. hes got about 3500, and I have about 250. I cant wait to get in the air, while he likes to wait for better weather. Its all about what you feel you need... me? I feel the need to jump... and im gonna do it where I 1) have fun, 2) feel safe, and 3) can do it multiple times in one day!Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #

Sonic 0 #5 December 13, 2002 I did most of my RAPS course at my current DZ, but went away to a different DZ to finish it. The weather was ok and everything, I just wanted to get away for a while, plus I knew a few people at the other dz (including instructors). Still got student of the year at my home dz ----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
freakous 0 #6 December 13, 2002 Loyalty is what you make of it and how you feel about it. One person's loyalty is not anothers. In this case..I would say definately not an issue. It's not like your taking money from your home DZ. You will jump there again when the season starts. Also, in another thread...you have to be yourself...that's where the loyalty should be held. Just my choice of bullshit!
CrazyIvan 0 #7 December 13, 2002 I really like my home DZ, but yes, I NEED TO JUMP!!!, besides, ALL of my current gear was bought there, the only thing left to buy is the parachute, I'll do that next year, and I'm planning in buying it there too.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. yardhippie 0 #8 December 13, 2002 Hey... I will still jump at that DZ. But where im going now gives me that "warm fuzzy" Everybody is great, and I learn a lot there. One of the best pieces of advice I have gotten yet "jump w/ as many people as you can, you will learn more". I find I can learn more making a jump with someone new every jump than one person all day. B/c they have different ideas and way of doing things. You might get a few a-holes but thats the way of things. Bottom line if your home DZ is upset or disapproves you you trying to stay current and learn... maybe you should get a new home DZ. riddler 0 #9 December 13, 2002 Depends on the DZ. Skydivers are like family, but it's also a business, and you can make a statement by switching DZs. Of course, there's nothing that can be done about bad weather, and I think DZs in cold areas understand that. I've never seen other skydivers or even instructors that would think of you as a traitor, but I have seen DZOs that would. If I was a DZO and a student went elsewhere, I would try to improve service so that didn't happen. OTOH, there are some DZOs out there that have huge egos and treat everyone like shit and don't understand why they can't keep jumpers. You need to do what's best for you, and other skydivers won't begrudge you for that. They'll most likely be jealous of you for staying warm!Trapped on the surface of a sphere. r2hubert 0 #16 December 13, 2002 It's not a question of traitor or not. But in my opinion for the AFF it's better to stay at your home DZ because they know you. And that really make a difference! They already see you jumping and it make the briefings for the jumps better and more focus on what you need to improve and focus on. That's my 2 cents... -- Renaud SMA #9 "Mind is like parachute. moodyskydiver 0 #17 December 13, 2002 I've been to 5 different DZs since my first tandem.I dont hold anything against any of them,I just want to do whats best for me and my personal level of training..I love to travel and meet other people like me.You should do what makes you happy and just hope your DZ understands. AggieDave 6 #18 December 13, 2002 Yes, and for some people though, its better for them to go to a different DZ. Not that there's anything wrong with their initial DZ, but that being taught by different people, with different teaching styles maybe what they need to get past a learning brick wall.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I started at one dz and finished at a different one. It was what i needed to get past my "brick wall." The first dz doesn't hold anything against me for it. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

nacmacfeegle 0 #23 December 13, 2002 Hell no! They will be jealous though.Personally travelling to different DZs is GOOD! Regardless of your experience level.
