dloose 0 #1 October 29, 2002 Has anyone seen the previews for this hollywood movie 'Extreme Ops' (comes out in November)? I guess there is a lot of basejumping/skydiving in it, and was curious if anyone knew exactly who the stunt people were for this flick. I read that the producer died in an avalanche while filming it, what a bummer! I wonder how people go about being stunt men/women in major motion films?here's the trailer for it:http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/extreme_ops/
flyhi 24 #2 October 29, 2002 Didn't realize this was the new Rufus Sewell and Heino Ferch movie. Where have those boys been?Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
Pixiedust 0 #3 December 5, 2002 I can't speak for all the stunt people in the movie, but I know for sure that the skydivers are Hunter Roberts, Ramsey Kent and Nicole Angelides. I didn't hear anything about anyone dying in an avalanche....is there any truth to this??

It seems like whenever I'm there half the people jumping are stuntmen.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I guess there is a lot of basejumping/skydiving in it saw it. i wouldn't recommend it. as for the ammount of skydiving and base jumping... very very very little. the only skydiving was in the very beginning while the credits were rolling to start, of which it wasn't that impressive anyway... focussed on one guy mainly flipping from belly to head down some... short clip. the only base jumping was one of the main characters who always wore his base rig (or something that resembled a base rig without legstraps, becuase he was just afraid. then the only base jump came from falling off a mountain when they were skiing to escape the bad guys. His legstraps appeared, thank goodness, and he opened, a round parachute, with a lot of line twists right next to the cliff. got hung up in a tree which was amusing, relative to the rest of the movie... it was mostly skiing and snowboarding, some decent shots of that, but too unrealistic for anyone familiar with any extreme sports. oh yeah, and they escaped from the Serbians, *few*... oh, sorry don't mean to give anything away, but it's pretty predictable anyway. the movie seemed targeted at teens aspiring to be bad-asses, with some cheesy scateboarding scenes and truth-or-dare to top it off. oh and they always held the camera in there hand, skydiving, skiing, kayaking, etc... amazing how they didn't drop it and it worked soaking wet with any waterproof case... you'd be better off getting a base video just for the content. just my opinion... glad i didn't pay full price to see it. peace lew

konradptr 0 #7 December 5, 2002 I saw the previews, and the part with the guy Base/skydiving by the helicopter, throwing a chain into the tail rotor was enough for me not to want to see it for free... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... riddler 0 #9 December 5, 2002 Speaking of bad movies - anyone see the new James Bond movie? Don't keep reading if you don't want me to spoil the "unpredictable" plot. I still can't stop laughing about how they had to descend to 5,000 feet in the jet because it was breaking up and got depressurized, violently sucking out most of the bad guys. Must have been 20 minutes from 5,000 feet, descending the whole time and they still had time to back out a helicopter on a conveyor belt and auto-gyrate it to a start before it hit the ground. I remember when I was a student and pulled at 5,000 feet - I think I had only 5 minutes or so under canopy. The brief skydiving scenes were bad too. What ever happened to great skydiving movies, like Cutaway? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
happythoughts 0 #10 December 5, 2002 Action movies don't generally have a plot or a realistic action sequence. They really are about escapism. Pretending to be the invincible, totally cool, chick-magnet (ala James Bond). I think that when they decide to do a James Bond movie, that they sit down and determine what stunts they want to do. Then they wrap a plot loosely around it. That is my expectation of action movies. Just a little entertainment, not a lot of accuracy. The "that is so cool, I want to do that" trance faded when I started doing all that. If you want to see cool skydiving stunts, buy Good Stuff from JJ. I did, well worth it.
