In a public statement, the Bureau of Alchohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, admitted that they were forced to return gunfire from the unoccupied dwelling. The unoccupants then set fire to the building by themselves. The ATF announced that the possession of firearms by untrained, lawless, bands of ruffians was a cause of violence in the US and a danger to the citizens.
