Do you have a college degree?

Recommended Posts

I never finished college. I finished about two years before I was unable to continue and took time off to work and well it's something I have thinking about a lot lately. Going back to school anyway. I do have a very good job right now, but I don't feel complete without a degree. It has been almost 7 years since I was in school. Been working hard since then. Just curious, what's the deal with everyone else?

Dropped out my first year of comunity college and have been working ever since. My job pays well but when I have a wife and kids to support I don't think that this job will be worth it. That's far in the future (wife and kids) but I know I'll eventually have to go back to school. I'm 21 so I have my whole life ahead of me.....one day at a time, or one vacation at a timeB|

In school, not happy with the program I'm taking (and it shows in my grades), and can't find any other program that interests me. It's frustrating, I'm thinking about heading back to community college for an associates degree, then getting back on the four year plan for a bachelors if I feel like it.

I'm a trades man myself. Went to the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Civil Municipal Drafting Technology. And, after 1 year, I'm out making around 20 bucks an hour behind a desk. When I was in high school, I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do, so I said, " I'll go to trades school, get in, get out, start making money, and then decide, rather than spend years wasting money figuring stuff out in college or university." I'm glad I did.

Full time job, part time college 3 hours a week although it has been upto 9 in the past (3 nights)
Did 3 years on CNC (machining) and i am now on my 3rd year of CAD (surface modeling)
The stuff i do is not recognized by the main education body, so it will never count.
Starting a maths foundation course in february with the open university, with a hope of getting a degree in maybe 5 years time.
I would like an honours degree in physics one day.

I'm 36 btw.

BA in General Studies from LSU. I took all business classes, but I transferred schools, didn't want to lose credits, blah de blah, that's what I ended up with so I could graduate in 4 years.

Took a couple community college courses, got a bunch of training in the Air Force and some has college credits attached to it- But no degree, and I can't say one is in my future, Maybe, someday, but not one of my "gotta have" goals.
I personally think degrees are overrated. Don't get me wrong, education is good, but I see so many people out there that think they will die poor if they don't have a sheepskin. So they work thier butt off to get a degree, and wind up stuck in a job in some other field making way less, kind of painted into a corner- (Like a guy I know, big outdoorsman, who got his degree in wildlife biology, and manages a hardware store, and is very unhappy.)

But take my Mom- When she was 65, Dad passed on- Mom didn't even have a HS diploma. Now at age 76 she has her Bachelors' in theology with a minor in Psych, (St. Boneventure University-) and does what she loves best- working with patients (counseling) at area hospitals. THAT rocks!!

No degree. I finished 1 year of Jr College then joined the Air Force. Somehow they got me involved with computers and the rest is (38 years of) history. Sonny, when I started using computers they had tubes. Young whippersnappers with their integrated circuits these days. :P:P

My only regret is not learning how to skydive sooner.
