jessd 0 #51 December 3, 2002 The average age at my school was 28. Most of the people I was in class with were mainly in their 30's and 40's. I was only 18 when I started, and I really liked being in class with people older than me. They were serious about completing their degree. It also made it easier for me because I lived at home and went to a commuter school while all of my friends moved away. I knew that I would get too involved in everything aside from class if I moved away. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..." AggieDave 6 #52 December 3, 2002 I'm almost done (one more year, done 4 so far) with school (undergrad). I'll leave Texas A&M University with a degree in History and a minor in Speech Communications. School is taking longer for me due to some major changes late in the game (was a Computer Science major for almost 3 years) and do to the inability to take more then about 13hrs a semester while being in the Corps of Cadets (I could have, but that would have literally killed me).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freeflir29 0 #60 December 3, 2002 According to the Air Force I have something like 128 credits.... Acquired through many differen't schools over the 9 years 6 months and 6 days I was in. Of course...99% of them are worthless to me at this point. I did CLEP English and I actually took one "real" class in Korea. Never was much for college. I keep failing to see the point. I did get a CompTIA A+ certification after I got out of the Air Force. Right now I'm working on getting a "Certified Protection Specialist" certificate from Colorado. I wouldn't mind going to college but I can't really afford college and things like food..... Maybe one of these days soon.
suz 0 #61 December 3, 2002 I went to university straight after school. I studied Journalism for, oh, two months...then pulled out. I have no qualifications what so ever, yet, I'm managing a restaurant! Just a natural, I am Don't bother me, I'm living happily ever after
Vallerina 2 #62 December 3, 2002 I've got a BS in Statistics. It's not the most exciting profession, but it was the best choice based on salary/demand. It's nice that my career is pretty much recession-proof, but sometimes I'd like to have a job outside of a cube. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
flyhi 24 #63 December 3, 2002 QuoteBA in General Studies from LSU. Does that count? I think Shaquille ("...dead, D-E-D, dead!") O'Neal graduated from there, didn't he? BS - Civil Eng MS - Systems Mgmt MS - Aeronautical Eng (Thesis: "Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of Airflow in a Turbulated Rectangular Box") Looked at it the other day and can't figure out what the hell I said. Muenkel 0 #64 December 3, 2002 I have an MBA. The ironic thing is, I think you can just put this on your resume and noone will check it.You'd be surprised how many employers to not verify what is on a person's resume. _________________________________________ Chris
Deuce 1 #65 December 3, 2002 BA Poli Sci, MPA (Masters Public Administration) I went to college after High School cause everybody else was. Stayed there until they put a funny hat on me and told me I was done. Got a job with the Sheriff's Department cause it paid pretty good (Bartending actually paid better) and had benefits. Got my MPA at night so I would be "qualified" to be a police administrator. Couple years later, WHAMMO, I get paid NOT to be a cop and don't have a job. I dust off that sheepskin, convince myself it has meaning, and convince the County it qualifies me to run one of their divisions. The silly things do open doors. They are good for that, anyway. So if your situation suddenly changes, having that diploma can help. St. Mary's and USF have pretty good degree programs for professionals, you should check that out. It's worth doing just to be able to say "yeah" when somebody asks you if you have a degree.

No technical or managerial experience. Got the job by being related to another manager. PC hiring policy "Ooooh...you have a Masters?" The position was managing a software development team. Other groups used to laugh (literally) when I told them to call my manager and discuss any issues.
MyUserID 0 #72 December 3, 2002 One semester left and I will have a BS degree in Human Factors/ Applied Experimental Psychology. When I started, the program was boasting 100% job placement and the highest starting salaries of the school. Who knows now. Snowbird 0 #74 December 3, 2002 QuoteOne of these days I'll figure out what I want to do with my life I'm so in that boat. I envy all of you who just did it and got on with life. I have a diploma in Graphic Arts, but live in a small town where most people don't know the difference between good design and bad. Almost continued for my BFA, but came to my senses in time to opt out. (BFA = Bachelor of F$%# All) These days I can't decide what to do when I grow up. I recently found a degree program at UBC in Agroecology that is very appealing. But I could also take a shorter diploma/certificate course and get a decent office job. What I love most is to write, and could happily do that but would like to improve my income not reduce it. Not to mention that I'm petrified of submitting my work for publication. I do need to decide soon. Not getting any younger here. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. megscott73 0 #75 December 3, 2002 Well, I posted asking for your opinions on this a few months ago---I'm going back to school full time. (Thanks to everyone for all of you input on that one, by the way) At 29 years old the thought of living at home again is a little depressing, but I know it will all be worth it when I finally graduate in about a year or so. The journey begins in January when I quit my job, look for a part time one, move home & dive into the books! ======================= "What I want is what I've not got ,but what I need is all around me"-DMB Meghan
